Asu Solarspell Initiative

The ASU SolarSPELL Initiative serves unconnected schools and communities by providing a relevant, education-focused, offline digital library — without the need for costly, long-term infrastructure improvements — and matching the technology with locally-based trainers who can support the necessary development of internet-ready skills. The SolarSPELL (Solar Powered Educational Learning Library) digital library mimics an online experience by generating its own offline WiFi hotspot to which any WiFi-capable device can connect, so that users can freely surf the library's expansive, yet localized, content. Our mission The ASU SolarSPELL Initiative empowers learners globally by providing localized educational information and the training to build 21st century skills in offline environments. Brown University Library

The Brown University Library is central to the Brown’s teaching and research mission. With a collection that includes approximately 7 million volumes (including over 2 million ebooks), nearly online journals, more than 500 databases, and over linear feet of manuscripts and archives, the Brown Library is one of the largest academic libraries in New England. In addition, Brown faculty and students may borrow from the collections of other Ivy libraries (some 90 million titles) as well as obtain materials from libraries around the globe through interlibrary loan. The Brown Library system consists of five campus buildings as well as the nearby Library Collections Annex (an off-campus high-density storage facility with a shelving capacity of 1.5 million volumes). The John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Library houses the Library’s collections for the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts. It is also home to the Center for Digital Scholarship, a hub of leading-edge digital projects, including the Mellon-funded Digital Publications Initiative. The Sciences Library supports research in the STEM fields, along with the George S. Champlin Health Sciences Library (located in the Alpert Medical School), which provides digital resources and infrastructure to medical students and faculty. Brown’s world-renowned special collections of rare books, manuscripts, archives, and ephemera are housed in the John Hay Library and the Library Annex. A Carnegie library, the exquisitely restored Hay offers extensive exhibition space, promoting engagement with Brown’s unique holdings for students, faculty, and the broader community. The Virginia M. Orwig Music Library consolidates Brown’s extensive music materials and is home to the Walter Neiman ‘46 Archive of Sound Recordings as well as more than musical scores.

The Cupertino Library Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. The Foundation’s vision is to encourage life-long learning and self-improvement through the Cupertino Library so that library users of all ages may become more knowledgeable and better informed, more enlightened and more proactive members of the community. In order to accomplish its vision the Foundation acts both as a catalyst for new projects and programs as well as a bridge allowing communication back and forth from the community and the library. The organization considers various opportunities and evaluates them using the three criteria of how many, how deeply and how much. Examples of significant projects underway include the S3 - Super Science Searches with Middle School students, and the Tech Toolbar located in the Cupertino Library. Deiters & Todd Library Consulting

Jim Deiters and Alex Todd combine for over 40 years of experience working in city, village and district libraries throughout northern Illinois; including 20 years of experience leading libraries as their director. Both Jim and Alex come from library families. Jim's mother was director at the Tinley Park Public Library while Alex's dad was director at the Fountaindale Public Library District. Although neither saw themselves as librarians when they were young, the profession's calling was ultimately too strong to resist. Jim and Alex met through the Library Administrators Conference of Northern Illinois (LACONI). As partners in its leadership circle, they oversaw a successful restructuring of LACONI's popular salary survey. The two paired up again as co-chairs of ILA's Advocacy Committee. During their tenure, they helped rewrite the committee's charter, implemented an annual work calendar and increased the number and quality of advocacy-related programs and workshops offered at ILA's annual conference, Reaching Forward and other regional and statewide events.
