RLI, a subsidiary of APM, has two business lines: supervisory and/or implementation services for watershed rehabilitation projects and implementation services for revegetation projects for reclamation activities. Mining companies are required to rehabilitate watershed areas and revegetate the reclamation area, either as a holder of forest area borrow-to-use permit (IPPKH) or for fulfilling post-mining obligations. In 2021, through revegetation services, RLI conducted revegetation for 275 Ha and maintenance for 270 Ha. Meanwhile, through watershed rehabilitation activities, RLI assisted in the handover of rehabilitated watershed area of PT Adaro Indonesia’s IPPKH of 440 Ha, and Maruwai Coal’s IPPKH of 1,858 Ha.

Pt Borneo Alumina Indonesia
PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum partner with PT Antam Tbk (SOE) build a Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) in West Kalimantan. The goal is to increase the added value of bauxite products to alumina (huge investment). The SGAR project construction consists of two stages with a total production capacity of two million tons of alumina. For phase one with a capacity of 1 million tons of SGA, the ground breaking is planned for the beginning of 2019. SGAR Project is National Strategic Project which connects the interrupted supply chain between Bauxite Mine (IUP Antam) and Aluminium Smelter Plant (INALUM) Through PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (PT BAI), the two companies will work together to build a refining plant to process bauxite into alumina, which is the main raw material for making aluminum ingots. INALUM itself is the only aluminum ingot producer in Indonesia, and will later absorb most of the alumina from PT BAI.

Indonesia is one of the major producers of nickel ore in the world. As of 2013, Indonesia accounts for 18%-20% of the global supply of the metal. Nickel mines are spread throughout Indonesia, but most of the major nickel mines such as ours are located in Sulawesi. Our mine is located in North Konawe regency at the South East Sulawesi province. Many other nickel mine companies are also located in the area, as it is known that this particular province has rich nickel deposits. Companies such as Antam, Stargate (which is owned by Glencore), Harita, Konutara, and Bosowa Mining all have one or more nickel mines located close to our mine site. Stargate, for example, owns a nickel mine that is located directly next to our mine site and they have been exporting raw nickel ores for many years. It is therefore not an uncommon sight to see one or two Mother Vessels anchoring on the coast of North Konawe, as all the nickel companies there can collectively export more than tons per month. Besides being rich in nickel deposits, the location in Konawe Utara has many other advantages for mining operations. Most of the mine sites there are located fairly close to the shore, and this means short distance hauling, which greatly helps the production of ores. Our mine site, which is summarized here, is only about 600 m from our jetty. Besides the relatively close distance to coast, our mine is also easily accessible from the major city of Kendari. It only takes approximately 5 hours of driving from Kendari to reach our mine.

KPC operations are located around Sangatta, the capital of the East Kutai Regency (Kutim), in the East Kalimantan Province of Indonesia. The town is on the Sangatta River, 50 km north of the equator on the east coast of Kalimantan Island, 180 km north of the provincial capital Samarinda and 310 km north of the major population centre of Balikpapan. KPC has a number of operating pits in the Sangatta mining area mined directly by KPC and by contractors. In June 2005, mining operations commenced at the Bengalon mine approximately 25 Km to the north of the Sangatta. KPC's Sangatta mines are close to the port facilities at Tanjung Bara which is linked to the mine by an overland conveyor of approximately 13 km in length. The Bengalon mine is also close to the coast being linked to its port facilities by a 22 km haul road. The close proximity of all the mines to the ports provides KPC with the advantage of low mine to port transportation costs. Most of KPC's employees live in company-built housing areas at Swarga Barga and Prima Griya Lestari which nestle between the mining operations administration centre and the town of Sangatta. Other employees reside at Tanjung Bara community approximately 17 kilometres from the mine.
