Musica Intima

Founded in 1992, musica intima has grown from collaborative grassroots beginnings to a fully professional vocal ensemble which has championed Canadian music on stages around the world, garnering two Western Canadian Music Awards and three JUNO Award nominations. The ensemble is now internationally known for pushing the boundaries of traditional choral performance and offering new perspectives on ensemble singing. One of Canada’s most esteemed vocal ensembles, musica intima’s unique shared leadership model invites each of the 12 members to be co-artistic directors of the group, exchanging ideas freely and exploring their individual musical creativity. musica intima strives to be a role model in “going beyond the land acknowledgement” both in the arts communities, and beyond, as they weave Indigenous stories into the fabric of local and national society through collaborations with artists across disciplines and leadership in diverse programming. The groundbreaking collaboration NAGAMO, with Cree composer Andrew Balfour, demonstrates this commitment to art and society - generating a JUNO-Nominated, WCMA winning album, but also providing a platform for musica intima to demonstrate their commitment to education and outreach through multiple cross-Canada tours, working with thousands of young singers and artists on collaboration and fostering the decolonization of the choral arts.

Opera In Concert

Opera in Concert, founded by Stuart Hamilton, C.M, made its debut on October 21st 1974 with Ambroise Thomas' HAMLET at the St. Lawrence Centre's Jane Mallett Theatre. Never before heard in Canada, Thomas' treatment of the Shakespeare play was a revelation, establishing a remarkable precedent: audiences were ready for unknown repertoire that showcased young Canadian talent presented in a format that was unadorned and direct. With a single stroke the Opera in Concert vision of rarely heard works sung by remarkable artists attained validity with opera professionals and the opera loving public. Soon enough, Opera in Concert expanded to as many as four operas per season with a full sized Choral component under Robert Cooper, C.M, an orchestra component for each season and THE BACKGROUNDER with Iain Scott. Since 1974, Opera in Concert has achieved an amazing record of more than 158 operas, 90 of which have been Canadian Premieres, stylistically ranging from Vivaldi's LA GRISELDA through Schmidt's NOTRE DAME to the modern sonorities of Harry Somers' THE FOOL. The company promoted the careers of Isabel Bayrakdarian, Ben Heppner, Aline Kutan, John Relyea, Richard Margison, Russell Braun, Frederique Vezina, Allyson McHardy, Michael Schade, Josh Hopkins, Jean Stilwell, Colin Ainsworth, John Mac Master and Rosemarie Landry, just to name a few and to this day, continues its commitment to nurture and foster the advancement of young artists.

Radix Theatre

Our mandate is to foster the creation and production of original and socially relevant work. The company primarily creates interdisciplinary performance but also ventures into other media, focusing on experimentation and collaborative creation. Radix is comprised of five Artistic Associates who collectively determine company projects and direction, facilitated by Artistic Producer Andrew Laurenson who is also one of the Associates. Radix Theatre has created many ambitious performances over the years incorporating dynamic physicality, seductive visual design, and provocative content. The company has created a new production at least once every year since its inception, inspired by issues such as environmental degradation, sexual repression, car culture and terrorism. Most of our work is site-specific, experimenting with the audience’s relationship to the performance. Performance locations include an inner-city field, a tour bus, a diner, an underground garage, a downtown office building, a parking lot with audience members in their cars, and IKEA.

Re Current Theatre

Re:Current Theatre is built upon three principles: 1. To create theatre that responds to performance, as a means to instill thought and provoke conversation. To pull apart and rearrange methods of performance. To breathe new life into an idea and start an intimate and intellectual conversation with the audience to redefine our experience of live performance. Re:Current Theatre fosters a space for the development of live theatre that responds to our surroundings and personal history with intellectual rigour and whimsical imagination. Our aesthetic uses a mix of current and historical technology, a range of acting methods and rehearsal techniques, and a visual sensibility to locate pulsing questions in intimate settings. Re:Current Theatre was founded in 2014. Originally, grown out of a shared interest in adapting classic texts, we wanted to produce live performance that would draw on both our academic and conservatory training. Frustrated by the lack of rigor and imagination we encountered, we decided to redefine performance in a way that would challenge how we approached our own work by placing us at risk for failure. Lead by Artistic Director, Brian Postalian, the company first produced Wild Duck Project, a four actor adaptation of Ibsen’s The Wild Duck, lit entirely by four wireless lamps. From 2014-2016, the company ran The Open Artist Share, a monthly(ish) pay-what-you-can series of workshops for emerging artists. Since then company has been working on developing new work with playwright/performer Jackie Rowland on This Is What I Know. Re:Current Theatre recently produced the sold-out hit at the 2017 SummerWorks Festival, The Smile Off Your Face, which won the SummerWorks Award for Best Production.

Ryerson Youth And Community Programs - Day Camps In Downtown Toronto For Kids And Teenagers

As an Ontario Camps Association Certified Camp, At Ryerson PYC Summer Programs, we are committed to helping each student shine, and feel confident in their individual abilities. We offer day camps for kids and teenagers in the heart of downtown Toronto. The focus of our programs is to develop confidence, imagination, teamwork, and acting skills through theatrical play and exploration. Located in Downtown Toronto, Classes in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance, Movement, Acting for Film and TV, Shakespeare, and Scene Study, culminate in performances for friends and families to enjoy. In all our camps we dedicate the first few days to getting to know our participants. This ensures that we are able to tailor our program experiences to each student's unique abilities. We work to find a way to help every student leave each day feeling confident and proud of what they are learning and accomplishing at Ryerson PYC. Our camps are non-competitive and highlight the benefits of working together as a team.
