Ground Queero -Nichola Ward

Grounded in craft, our projects have always been disruptive of definition. In that spirit, our vision of “queer” is a fusion of the traditional and transgressive meanings of the word. as well as a modern reclaiming of gender, orientation and disability “otherness”. Our first performance project was a fusion of ideas: Emerging artists (old and young)- Established artists (old and young) performance and literature in mutual celebration. At the time, multi-generational, multi disciplinary platforms were not available, so we created our own. Ground Queero continues to be the platform for many ground-breaking projects: From graphic novels that are performed, to live Japanese suspension bondage supporting poetry, to Artificial Intelligence animated literature. Multi Media/Social Media as virtual performance space. in other words, Ground Queero is a convent for the unconventional. Groundling Theatre Company

ground-ling definition: 1. A person who stood in the pit of an Elizabethan theatre 2. One that lives or works on or near the ground Founded in 2011 by Graham Abbey, Groundling Theatre is a Toronto based theatre company committed to producing imaginative, original and accessible productions of Shakespeare’s plays as well as works inspired by Shakespeare, in an effort to educate and inspire a new generation of audiences and artists. By taking Shakespeare out of its traditional context Groundling Theatre hopes to re-examine and re-interpret the canon, allowing audiences old and new alike to relate the timeless themes contained in Shakespeare’s plays to their own world and the issues relevant to a contemporary Canadian context. Heist

HEIST is a live art company committed to creating, producing and presenting innovative, genre-bending and queerly playful performances in Halifax and beyond. An important element to our organization is having a clear and strong commitment to diversity within culture, abilities and gender. HEIST is the brainchild and new creative platform for theatre director/singer/performer Richie Wilcox and musician/theatre designer/performer Aaron Collier. Together, the two partners-in-crime are responsible for the creation of many recent popular shows including The Princess Show, NATION, and New Waterford Boy. Heist has recently had the complete privilege of welcoming Sylvia Bell onto the team as our Managing Director. This trio could not be happier. The company is actually the rebirth and takeover of Halifax’s long-running Angels & Heroes Theatre, co-founded in 2002 by Tara Patriquin, Heather Davis-Fisch and Richie Wilcox, making it a true manifestation of its namesake.

Maison Des Arts De La Parole

Fondée en 2002, sous le nom de Productions Littorale, la Maison des arts de la parole est un organisme culturel qui se consacre à valoriser, promouvoir et diffuser les arts de la parole, retissant le fil d'une tradition orale millénaire pour en visiter les plus contemporaines expressions. Nous Sommes Ici

Nous sommes ici se consacre à produire et diffuser la démarche artistique du metteur en scène Alexandre Fecteau. Les créations de Nous sommes ici ont en commun de faire vivre des relations humaines hors du commun à chacun des spectateurs. Pour se rapprocher d’eux et de leur réalité, Nous sommes ici affectionne particulièrement le théâtre documentaire. Le nom de la compagnie résume ces ambitions artistiques : désignant les spectateurs autant que les acteurs, le « Nous » se conjugue avec l'« Ici » que constitue le lieu de rencontre immédiate entre le public et les comédiens. Fondé en 2008, Nous sommes ici a produit depuis huit créations originales, dont L’étape, La Date et Changing Room, première création présentée à l’extérieur de Québec. À partir de 2013, la compagnie collabore avec divers partenaires. De là naît Le NoShow, le plus gros succès de Nous sommes ici présenté plus de 100 fois au Québec, en France et en Suisse, et ayant donné lieu à deux adaptations, dont une version mexicaine en espagnol. En 2018 est créé Hôtel-Dieu suivi d’Entre Autres en 2019. En 2019 toujours a été présentée la première mouture de Tout Inclus dont la version intégrale vient d’être créée chez Duceppe et qui partira en tournée en 2022. Entre-temps, Nous sommes ici a créé Singulières qui sera présenté à Ottawa, Toronto et de retour au Théâtre la Bordée où il a été créé. La compagnie est actuellement dans une période de croissance où elle chercher à maintenir son rythme de création tout en bonifiant ses moyens de production et à développer de nouveaux marchés de diffusion.

One World Arts

Founded in 1972, One World Arts is a volunteer-based, charitable organization working to create awareness on world issues. With a focus on the media and performing arts, our programs are designed to engage citizens of all ages. It is our conviction that education through the arts is the most powerful and effective method of public engagement. Central to our mission is to work together with Canadian artists and with organizations involved in human rights, social justice and the environment to further public education on issues that concern our global communities. Since its inception, One World Arts has run on the dedication of its volunteers and staff, who are passionate about combining arts and education about global issues. The organization was originally established as the Ottawa-Hull Learner Centre, in the mid-1980s changed its name to World Inter-Action Mondiale (WIAM), and in 2011 changed its name again to One World Arts — the best reflection of our organization’s two facets, arts and global issues. Our flagship program is the One World Film Festival, which launched in 1989 and has become Ottawa’s longest-running documentary film festival raising awareness on social justice, human rights and environmental issues. In the last ten years, One World Arts has emphasized the educational dimension of its mandate and has created programs that seek to bring awareness of and engagement, with arts media as the main method of engagement and action. Several youth action programs have fulfilled this objective, such as the Get Going! Theatre program, the Green Theatre Camp, and, most recently, the Awesome Indies Youth Arts Festival and the Movie Magic Workshops and the Awesome Arts Program and Festival (2012). After an excellent five-year history with One World Arts, the Awesome Arts program moved to MASC in July 2013. Axés sur les arts médiatiques et de la scène, nos programmes sont conçus pour engager les citoyens de tous âges. Un pilier central de notre mission est le travail effectué de concert avec des artistes canadiens et les organismes défendant les droits de l’homme, la justice sociale et l’environnement afin d’enrichir l’éducation publique sur les enjeux ayant des répercussions sur nos collectivités à l’échelle planétaire. Dès ses débuts, One World Arts est menée par le dévouement de ses employés et bénévoles, qui partagent une passion pour les arts au service de l’éducation aux enjeux mondiaux. Opera York

Opera York is a not-for-profit, registered charitable arts organization that is run by an annually elected Board of Directors. Opera York is a regional, professional opera company based in York Region. It is the resident opera company of the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. As a company, in a geographical area still developing its cultural programming, Opera York’s aim is to be a model organization for cultural service delivery. Growing from concerts in the parks in York Region, Opera York now offers full productions, with orchestra, chorus and surtitles. Opera York has partnered with the York Region Public and Separate School Boards to introduce opera to a new generation through the Opera for Schools /L'opéra pour les écoles program. We offer programs such as Opera for Seniors, Through Opera Glasses and Opera Teas through municipal Culture and Recreation Departments, and partnerships with supporting organizations. Opera for Seniors provides entertainment and lifestyle enrichment for the growing seniors population in York Region through a series of affordable concerts offered during daytime hours. Opera York provides opportunities for creative artists to support their craft. The company uses Canadian singers, with emphasis on artists from Ontario and on the introduction of new artists from York Region. The Education Program includes a program to support our opera with a Children’s Chorus. This gives children an exciting experience of opera and opportunities to learn classical music and drama, including stage movement. Some members of our Children’s Chorus have moved on to our adult chorus and then on to university vocal/education programs. The company recognizes the importance of serving its diverse multicultural community. It offers Italian productions, French productions and very recently expanded its base to include a production in Hebrew.
