Westben
Westben brings people together through music and nature and is a magical blend of world class music, wonderful people and a magnificent setting. For 25 years Westben has been about bringing people together through music, experiencing it in a natural setting. Westben is where the best of music and nature spring to life! Nestled amongst the peaceful hills of Northumberland County two hours east of Toronto, near Campbellford, Westben’s original performance venue is a custom-built, timber-frame barn. The Barn seats 400 and combines state-of-the-art acoustics with a rustic yet sophisticated atmosphere. On sunny days from June to September massive walls and doors roll away allowing music to waft over the surrounding meadow. In 2022 Westben built two new outdoor venues. Willow Hill is a natural grassy amphitheater that seats up to 500 people and the new Campfire venue, an intimate gathering for 50 people. Performances at Westben’s open air summer festival range from Bach to Broadway, opera and symphony to jazz, folk, fiddle, Indigenous, rock and comedy. Westben offers interactive One-of-a-Kind Experiences with music and nature in the neighbouring Nature Reserve. Pre-Covid the Dare to Pair series featured local chefs, sommeliers, story tellers and musicians on site before the concerts. Westben’s Digital programs include concerts, podcasts, musical moments and more available on Westben’s YouTube Channel and the new Westben’s International Performer-Composer Residency is an international gathering of creative risk-takers whose practice involves some combination of both composition and performance. These artists from around the world collaborate for a month digitally creating new works and host public workshops.

In 2002, we began the Theatre Arts Company and began training students all year round in acting. I often wonder where these students will end up and if their memories of performing on stage will be lasting? The volunteers who have helped over the years have been amazing. Sewing costumes, building props and sets and helping to install our permanent theatre curtains and scrim rigging, volunteers are the back bone of our company. Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools
The Lights Up team have been running theatre programs in Vancouver since 2006, creating Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools in 2016. We provide weekly musical theatre classes, after school programs and week-long seasonal camps for children and teens aged between 3 and 18 years of age. We continue to grow as Vancouver’s premier children’s theatre program, with over 1,100 children enrolled in our programs in the Lower Mainland each week of the school term, and hundreds more attending our yearly Spring Break and Summer Camps. At Lights Up, we teach musical theatre fundamentals that help students shine on stage and in all aspects of their lives – from building confidence to improving public speaking, becoming more confident and outgoing, but mostly having lots of fun with performing arts! Backed by consistently high levels of satisfaction from the families of our students, we offer various performance opportunities – from smaller, in-house presentations to full-scale productions in some of the region’s top theatres, such as the Vancouver Playhouse and Queen Elizabeth Theatres. Students do not have to be budding starlets to benefit from our programs and no prior musical theatre experience is required. Theatre is more about the process than the end production – our students learn to work in teams, solve problems, be creative and explore their talents, while making new friends. A leading provider of children’s extra-curricular activities, we run classes every weekend on Vancouver’s Westside, Eastside and North Shore, as well as Richmond, South Surrey and Langley. We also offer after schools programming at a selection of elementary schools in the Lower Mainland, alongside the various school districts and school PACs. Our after school programs are suitable for most elementary schools and arranged by request. Massey Theatre opened in 1949 as British Columbia’s largest theatre. Since then its lights have shone on thousands of performances and the Massey has become a cherished space to experience the arts.
