Doctors Of The World Greece
Doctors of the World / Médecins du Monde – Greece (MdM-Greece), founded in 1990, is a medical humanitarian non-governmental organization and is a member of Médecins Du Monde International which consists of 15 delegations (Argentina, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States of America). The guiding principle underlying MdM’s activities is that every human being has a right to humanitarian assistance, irrespective of their gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, ideology or political persuasion. MdM is, therefore, guided by the principles of neutrality and impartiality. Being neutral, however, does not preclude MDM from speaking out about human rights abuses witnessed in the field. Where possible, MDM draws attention to such abuses either by means of silent diplomacy or through the media. MDM is an independent NGO, whose modus operandi is characterized by its swift, small scale and targeted delivery of humanitarian assistance to populations in danger. Médecins du Monde – Greece, since the beginning of its operations, has been implementing several projects within Greece and abroad, in order to provide medical as well as other services to marginalized populations that cannot access healthcare services and medical care. The long term goal of MDM is to make healthcare a basic human right.

Initiative For The Child
Initiative for the Child” was founded by a group of volunteers in Veria, in April 2008. The tragic case of disappearance of a young boy called Alex shocked the local community and became the main reason for the establishment of the group. Today, more than 200 active volunteers offer their services while the number of its members exceeds over 300. Goal Paramount to achieving the goals of “Initiative for the Child” is the provision of care and protection to children in need and at risk. Our main target group consists of children who come from dysfunctional or broken families and have been experiencing serious neglect and abuse of any type as well as children who have been abandoned or orphaned. These children most of the times are found at the fringes of the familial, school and social groups and very often are rejected by these environments. As a result, in many cases, these kids end up in as users of youth delinquency system services. Some other wider target groups of “Initiative for the Child” consist of the members of the families of the children using our services, other socially vulnerable families with children and vulnerable sector groups in the local community facing poverty and social exclusion. Some of our other main goals are the promotion of foster care and volunteerism as well as the creation and application of sensitization and informative programs in the population in general.
