Utilitas
Utilitas is the largest producer of renewable energy in Estonia. More than a third of Estonian district heating customers are connected to Utilitas networks. Utilitas produces renewable, environmentally friendly, and reasonably priced electricity and provides district heating and cooling. Utilitas is the largest wind energy producer in Latvia - wind farms in Tārgale and Grobiņa - and is building the most modern wind farm in Saarde in Estonia at the moment and developing an offshore wind farm Saare-Liivi in Estonia in the Gulf of Riga. Our activities aim to have an impact on people, the environment, and society, which is why we are also responsible for managing the resulting impacts. For more than a decade, Utilitas has been working to ensure that the energy consumed in cities is produced as efficiently and environmentally friendly as possible. We have reduced our carbon footprint by 64% since 2008. Utilitas’ carbon neutrality strategy "From Low to Zero Carbon" envisages achieving carbon neutrality in our district heating and district cooling networks and using 100% renewable sources of energy production by 2030 at the latest. Utilitas produces electricity and heat, as the byproduct, from biomass in cogeneration plants and boiler houses, where the efficiency reaches 100%. District heating is a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly solution – the best method for supplying heat to densely populated areas. District cooling is the most environmentally friendly and convenient way to cool the rooms of urban buildings while ensuring a healthy indoor climate.
