Ludwig Boltzmann Institute Of Osteology
The LBI of Osteology is the scientific core center within a multidisciplinary clinical network located at the Hanusch Hospital and the Trauma Centre Meidling targeting diagnosis and treatment of bone and joint diseases. Its mission is to achieve the highest level of scientific excellence through basic and clinical research in osteology, as well as the training of young scientists and clinicians. The primary goal is the improvement of patient care. Towards this goal, the study of bone is undertaken at all hierarchical levels through a multidisciplinary approach by a worldwide unique combination of techniques. The aim is the elucidation of the mechanisms underlying the basic function of bone, and musculoskeletal diseases, leading to the discovery and development of effective strategies for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. For example, ongoing research provides insights into the basis of bone fragility in osteoporosis and osteogenesis imperfecta. The gained knowledge provides benchmarks against which current therapies are evaluated, and provides the basis for the design of new, targeted ones. To achieve stated goal, LBIO basic scientists and clinicians in tandem with national and international collaborators as well as industry, are utilizing LBIO expertise and available combination of analytical approaches to study bone at all hierarchical levels. The existing combination of instrumental capabilities allows analyses to be performed from a clinical, cell & molecular biology, physical chemical, and material science perspective.

Division Of Nuclear Medicine Medical University Of Vienna
The Clinical Division for Nuclear Medicine at the General Hospital Vienna (AKH) is among the largest and most renommated nuclear medicine departments in Europe, with more than 100 staff members, extensive facilities and equipment, encomapssing a cyclotron, a preclinical imaging facility, multiple PET/CT and PET/MR scanners including a total-body PET/CT scanner, and a dedicated therapy ward for radioligand therapy. In the area of imaging diagnostics, the division offers all methods of conventional nuclear medicine such as thyroid, skeleton, lung, brain, and heart examinations as well as inflammation diagnostics using SPECT and SPECT/CT technology. Furthermore, the department is equipped with PET/CT and PET/MR scanners, which, combined with a wide range of radiopharmaceuticals, are used for individual and customized diagnostic and therapeutic concepts. This involves close cooperation with numerous institutes, hospitals and research centers in and outside of Austria. Research within the division of nuclear medicine encompasses a variety of focus areas, such as clinical research, experimental nuclear medicine, preclinical imaging, experimental cardiovascular imaging, total-body research, and the clinical application of artificial intelligence for medical imaging.

Nextgenmicrofluidics
MICROFLUIDIC LAB-ON-A-FOIL SYSTEMS There is great potential for polymer foil-based microfluidic lab-on-a-chip systems - so-called lab-on-a-foil systems - particularly in medicine, pharmaceuticals, production and analysis. The H2020 project NextGenMicrofluidics combines the competencies of 21 companies and research organizations along the entire value chain in the development of microfluidic lab-on-a-foil systems and offers services for the development and production of these systems for companies - from start-ups to large-scale industry. NextGenMicrofluidics is addressing this challenge by establishing an Open Innovation Test Bed, which will combine technologies such as high-resolution printing of biomolecules in the form of the world's first roll-to-roll microarray spotter as well as a unique continuous roll-to-roll production line for high-throughput manufacturing for foil-based microfluidics. Injection molding and wafer-based glass and silicon processing will complement the platform. All of these together enable mass production of several million lab-on-a-foil systems per year, important, for example, for the production of rapid tests for medical diagnosis with possible application in COVID-19 detection. Parallel to technical development NextGenMicrofluidics offers business advice to attract new venture capital. NextGenMicrofluidics creates value for its customers through: • Unique technology offer to develop and manufacture microfluidic systems • Open access for testing of new technologies via the open innovation test bed • One single entry point to this research and development services • Production as a service • Quality assured • Access to venture capital This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No. 862092 with a total volume of almost 15 million Euros for the next 4 years.
