European Translational Oncology Prevention & Screening Institute
The European Translational Oncology Prevention & Screening (EUTOPS) Institute is a new research institution at the Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck (formally affiliated with the Institute for Biomedical Ageing Research) led by Prof Martin Widschwendter. The institute was established in spring 2020, aiming to support research into improving prevention and screening methodologies in oncology. Cancer therapies have drastically improved over the past decades, yet many cancers, such as ovarian, pancreatic and lung cancer continue to have a poor 5-year survival following diagnosis and are typically detected at late stages; little improvement in patient survival has been observed in the past 20 years. For most cancers, the prognosis is best when the disease is detected at an earlier stage but ideally, the disease should be prevented altogether. Our core mission is to develop methodologies, which can identify individuals at risk of developing cancer, and to investigate preventive measures and their effectiveness. Our expectation is that the cancer incidence will be drastically reduced using these methods.

Institute For Advanced Studies Ihs , Vienna
Research at IHS is characterized by its interplay of academic and project oriented nature and is organized along three key research areas:"Economy, Markets, Governance,""Polarization versus Cohesion of Society," and "Innovation and Societal Change", which highlight three overarching social challenges that IHS tackles through relevant, evidence-based and scientific contributions. IHS conducts scientific project in several countries; project funding stems from competitive research grants (e.g. Horizon 2020 and FWF - Austrian Science Fund) as well as contract research with contracts from public institutions and companies (e.g. European Commission, Ministries, NGOs). IHS prepares quarterly economic forecasts for the Austrian economy for the current and following year. In addition, once a year a medium-term forecast for economic developments in Austria for the next five years are presented. IHS has specially developed tools and models for working with large amounts of data. This can be used, for example, to model consequences of changes in the tax system or to illustrate the economic interdependencies of sectors, regions and companies - an overview is available at ihs.ac.at/models. European consortium projects such as EUROSTUDENT or the European Social Survey (ESS) are examples of the pivotal research undertaken at IHS. IHS is the national coordinator for the ESS, a pan-European survey of attitudes, preferences and behavior patterns of the European population in more than 30 countries. For early career researchers, there are also opportunities to pursue doctoral training and gaining a PhD. Early career researchers formally study at a university but are involved in ongoing research projects at IHS.

Knowing
Climate change is already affecting our lives, and the consequences will get more serious. Heat waves, floods and damage to crops and forests will increase and force us to adapt to changing living conditions. But we can still influence the extent and severity of climate change! We already know a lot about what needs to be done to help us adapt and reduce CO2 emissions to stop global warming. What we don't know is how individual measures can interact with each other. Or even hinder mitigation, like large adaptation infrastructure projects generating more additional emissions than mitigation measures can compensate for. This is where the European research project KNOWING sets in. KNOWING assesses the interaction of measures in different sectors such as housing, transport or land use. Based on the findings of how measures interact, hinder or support each other, clear pathways are developed that help us make the best possible decisions for climate action. KNOWING wants policy makers, scientists, businesses and citizens to be able to use this knowledge to create a climate-neutral and better world. The guidelines and tools will be freely open to all people. In this way, KNOWING contributes to a sustainable future. A liveable future for you, me and our children.
