Ifz - Interdisciplinary Research Centre For Technology, Work And Culture

The Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Technology, Work and Culture (IFZ) is a registered, non-profit scientific association (ZVR-Zahl 193954517). IFZ was founded in the year 1988 with the objective to address technology as a social process and to integrate social issues into engineering studies. Working within the critical areas of a debate between science and policy, reflection and intervention, the prime objective of IFZ today is to contribute to socially and environmentally sound, sustainable and gender-equitable technology design. IFZ has been aiming at gender justice since its founding. Since 2006 two elected ombudspersons are dealing with gender equality issues, in 2013 IFZ has implemented a gender equality plan. The IFZ is mainly financed through research contracts. Our clients and partners include governmental bodies at municipal, provincial, federal and international level along with research institutions and companies.

Institute Of Chemistry And Technology Of Biobased Systems - Ibiosys At Tu Graz

The Institute IBioSys is based on the amalgamation of basic research (Chemistry) and applied research (Technology) of Biobased Systems such as bioconjugates containing bioactive carbohydrate moieties, with the main goal embedding the interdisciplinary research field in combination with knowledge and technology transfer to teaching and research, industry and society on the local, regional and international level. It is a HUB of innovation for Chemistry and Technology of Biobased Systems in accordance with the Fields of Expertise of Graz Technical University, most importantly Advanced Material Science and Human Biotechnology as well as with the regional cooperation NAWI Graz (University Graz) and BioTechMed (Medicinal University Graz).

Society For Social Research And Education

The founding of the Society for Social Research and Education (GeSoB) coincided 2012 with a period of economic crisis and social upheaval of global character. We can speak of a turn of an era, in which solutions and concepts chosen so far have proven inadequate, in which new theoretical and practical questions have arisen that call for innovative social answers to the pressing socio-political, cultural and economic questions facing actors in the fields of society, politics, economics and education. In this context, GeSoB makes its contribution with social innovations based on interdisciplinary research that combines theory with practice, basic research with applied research that analyzes and overcomes the contradictions fed by social, regional, national and transnational interdependencies. Only diversity of methods is appropriate in a research program designed in this way. The heuristic reference points of our view of humanity are the inalienable, universal and indivisible human rights and, in the social sphere, all those visions that promote the goal of an egalitarian and solidary society based on the self-socialization of people: We consciously oppose those social conditions that are subordinated to unquestioned naturalized constraints – be they economic or technocratic – with a social ideal designed in the public interest. The way to achieve this is primarily through education, which in our understanding must go beyond purely vocational and efficiency-oriented training, deepening and sharpening the reflective view of society as a whole and enabling analysis and criticism.

Climate change represents the most transcending challenge facing our world today. Global temperature rise is altering the face of the Earth at rates without precedent in human history. The consequences of climate change are particularly evident in alpine regions around the globe which are the main focus of our research interest. We are a non-profit research institution and connect research questions across our three research fields GEO, MONITORING and ENGINEERING to foster sustainable development in alpine regions. We develop fundamentals for climate change adaptation by investigating climate-driven surface and subsurface changes, related natural hazards and their impacts on lives and assets. We support governmental institutions and private enterprises with tailored research and targeted knowledge transfer to strengthen climate resilience. We are not alone. We follow an inter- and transdisciplinary approach and collaborate with more than 50 national and international partners to cope with the complexity of climate change.

Tedusar - Field Robotics Team Graz University Of Technology

Research and development of robotics for use in challenging and unstructured areas, such as disaster areas, planetary exploration or inspection and maintenance. The members of the TEDUSAR field robotics team are united by their fascination with robots – autonomous robots that are able to go about their tasks independently and without help from outside. Team TEDUSAR (Technology and EDUcation for Search And Rescue robots) develops autonomous search and exploration robots to support emergency teams in disaster situations and to operate in challenging remote areas such as the Alps. In these environments, they have to deal with several challenges: unstructured physical environments, automatic creation of maps, navigation, or autonomous collection of information. The team regularly takes part in international competitions. The team also takes part in exercises with emergency professionals such as the fire brigade, in order to test the use of robots in disaster situations.
