Greenmat Uliege
GREEnMat is a research laboratory specializing in the development and characterization of functional materials (mainly inorganic) in the form of powders, bulk materials or coatings for applications related to energy, environment, health or protective coatings. In most projects, we pay special attention to the control of microstructure, porosity and interfaces to optimize the material properties. While maintaining a strong expertise in structural ceramics (stabilization of suspensions, shaping and densification), we are mainly active in the field of functional materials proving higher added value. Current research projects notably focus on the development of (new) materials with specific properties and their integration into applications in the fields of energy - through technologies for its production (photovoltaics), storage (Li, Na, K, Zn-ion batteries) or energy consumption management (electrochromic glazing)- or health (materials for/by 3D printing in the biomedical sector). Across all research projects, the development of materials and synthesis processes with a low ecological footprint (less energy-consuming, aqueous phase, etc.) is also a priority for the GREEnMat laboratory. Recycling aspects are also central to our research activities. In order to meet our objectives, we rely on a wide panel of modern synthesis (spray-dryers, hydro/solvothermal reactors.), manufacturing (multi-material 3D printing, spray deposition) and characterization tools. We are proud to put our expertise and equipment to use in collaborative projects of all kinds, from pioneering research in academic networks to innovative applied research in academia-industry consortia. We also carry our contract research for industrial partners in our fields of expertise.

Heart For Cleantech
Heart for Cleantech is the new Cleantech and innovation ecosystem for Coeur in Hainaut, which comprises 25 towns and municipalities and inhabitants. Our aim is to initiate, develop and consolidate projects that will have an economic and environmental impact on the Coeur du Hainaut region. Given the specific characteristics of the region, Heart For Cleantech will focus on 3 themes: circular materials, energy and data. These areas will be implemented in two pilot sectors: logistics and agri-food. In the medium and long term, the main goal of this dynamic is to create sustainable jobs in our region. And we're convinced that the creation of economic activity is the key to achieving this. That's why Heart for Cleantech aims to support cleantech-related projects and create strategic facilities to support and encourage innovation in the Coeur du Hainaut. In practice, the ecosystem is reflected in a series of initiatives and the creation of an exchange network, the “Forum 4 Cleantech”. The forum brings together a large community of members with very diverse profiles, who are committed to strengthening their exchanges and synergies around Cleantech. Our approach is based on the pentagram model of the MIT REAP (Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program) methodology, mobilising all five stakeholders of the model simultaneously: entrepreneurs, companies, capital, academic institutions and public institutions.

Crides - Uclouvain

Dicopo Digital Constitutionalism & Policy
The question raised by digital technologies are primarily constitutional. The protection of rights and freedoms are increasingly under pressure coming from a mix of public and private interferences. At the same time, the role of technology in empowering public authorities and transnational corporations is changing the traditional way in which individual experience their rights in a democracy. The development of artificial intelligence technologies, cybersecurity risks or even the spread of disinformation on social media are only some examples of the constitutional questions raised by the digital age. Digital technologies intimately touch upon the core of fundamental rights and freedoms while leading to new dynamics of power in the digital age. For this reason, we are pleased to introduce Digital Constitutionalism and Policy (DICOPO), a group of scholars, policy-makers and business experts at the forefront of understanding and shape the future of digital governance. The rapid development of technology and policy calls for a deep exploration of the complex intersections between constitutionalism and digital technologies. At the heart of this group lies a deep commitment to examine how rights and powers are changing in the digital age and how policy should approach to this transformation. By fostering interdisciplinary research, rigorous analysis, and engaging in robust policy debates, DICOPO aims to provide meaningful insights and actionable recommendations to different stakeholders. It brings together diverse perspectives and expertise to address the multifaceted challenges posed by the digital revolution, such as privacy, freedom of expression, algorithmic accountability, cybersecurity, and equitable access to technology.

Laboratory Of Food Technology
The LFT research activities revolve around three key interrelated research lines:(i) process-structure relations or structure engineering answering the question on how food structures can be generated and maintained (key research interest: Prof. Marc Hendrickx);(ii) process-structure-quality relations or omics and kinetics for food quality design investigating the influence of the processes used and the structures obtained on biochemical, chemical, and physical food quality aspects during processing and shelf life (key research interest: Prof. Ann Van process-structure-health relations or in silico and in vitro digestion and bio-accessibility studies with focus on how food structure can be steered to influence/optimize nutrient bio-accessibility and digestion of plant-based foods (key research interest: Prof. Tara Grauwet). In our research, we include a reverse engineering approach starting from consumer PAN-profiles (Preference, Acceptance and Needs) taking into account the physiological processing during digestion. The research approach integrates reaction mechanisms, chemometrics (fingerprinting), and kinetics (including multiresponse kinetics) at different length scales (molecular, microscopic, mesoscopic, and macroscopic) and time. This information is translated in predictive models that can serve in solving problems of design, evaluation, and optimization of unit operations and (multiple) indicator systems for process impact evaluation. We particularly focus on fruit, vegetable- and legume-based foods and ingredients.
