Mars Uclouvain
Mars Analog Research Simulation M.A.R.S. UCLouvain is a scientific project simulating an expedition to Mars. This project is lead by students and researchers from the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) and takes place during 2 weeks in the Utah desert. We are sending 8 students and researchers at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in the Utah desert. During the mission in Utah, each member has a specific task related to the proper functioning of the MDRS : food production, tool maintenance, health care, communication, etc. More importantly, each member will conduct a scientific experiment to learn more about the extreme environment of Mars. An experiment that humans could replicate on the planet itself. These experiments have to be creative and feasible in a such extreme environment. M.A.R.S. UCLouvain (previously known as UCL to Mars) exists since 2010 and many Belgian and international companies have sponsored the design and the implementation of these experiments.

Comproved
Assessing people and tasks fairly and correctly: that is the goal of every assessor or teacher. But how qualitative are these assessments? Teachers have to give scores on students' works that are often impossible to assess objectively. Research shows that on a 20-point scale teachers sometimes differ by 8 points when they assess the same student. Why, for example, does one piece of work deserve a six and another a seven? Comproved has been researching that question for years. As a spin-off of the University of Antwerp we help companies and organisations to qualitatively assess and simplify complex assessments, selections or decisions. To do so Comproved has developed a scientifically underpinned software tool based on comparative judgment. After all, the way people make decisions is always by making comparisons. Our Comparing tool is fast, user-friendly and works very simple: we always show two 'works' and ask you to choose the best one. By comparing all 'works' several times and involving enough evaluators, a reliable ranking is created which you can link to scores. The result? Your assessments are of a higher quality, more reliable and also form a learning opportunity. Because anyone who is being assessed can learn a lot from this assessment. At Comproved we want to inspire people and stimulate a mind shift in fair assessment. Together we lift assessments and learning effects to a higher level. Curious how we can help you with assessments? Don't hesitate to send us a message or read more about our comparing tool at https://comproved.com/en/comparing-tool/

Emib Energy And Materials In Infrastructure And Buildings
Overview The built environment is the result of a chain of materials, companies, people, and their complex interactions. Redefining sustainability in one link of the chain inevitably requires a re-evaluation of the sustainability of other parts. This trade-off poses a conceptual challenge, which is addressed in the research on sustainability assessments. As the sustainability of the built environment is strongly characterized by buildings themselves, a particular interest is paid to the interaction of buildings with users and (building) infrastructure. Consequently, building energy performance is a key performance indicator we use to assess the sustainability of the built environment. However, energy performance is not the only KPI and therefore, only one part of the comprehensive sustainability assessment expertise/services/framework we offer. Research domain EMIB is a multi-disciplinary research group focusing on the transformation of buildings, infrastructure and the whole built environment to a more sustainable manner. The built environment is the result of a chain of materials, companies, people and their complex interactions. Through research and collaboration with industry the EMIB-research group aims to improve the performance of new and existing building stock and infrastructure. We focus on the whole live cycle, considering sustainability and cost-effectiveness, with a strong incorporated expertise in assessing energy performance (in both building and community scales), HVAC systems and greenery solutions.
