Snolab
SNOLAB is an underground science laboratory specializing in neutrino and dark matter physics. Located 2 km below the surface in the Vale Creighton Mine located near Sudbury Ontario Canada, SNOLAB is an expansion of the existing facilities constructed for the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) solar neutrino experiment. SNOLAB follows on the important achievements in neutrino physics achieved by SNO and other underground physics measurements. The primary scientific emphasis at SNOLAB will be on astroparticle physics with the principal topics being: Low Energy Solar Neutrinos Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay Cosmic Dark Matter Searches Supernova Neutrino Searches These are areas of research where the experiments require great depths to reduce cosmogenic backgrounds. They also require extreme levels of cleanliness to reduce environmental radiological backgrounds to the levels necessary for these very sensitive measurements. SNOLAB achieves these goals by being located 2 km underground and by having the entire laboratory constructed as a single large clean room (class While particle astrophysics is the principle focus for SNOLAB, there is a growing interest in other scientific fields to exploit deep underground laboratories. In particular, there has been interest expressed in the fields of Seismology and Geophysics interested in precision, long term measurements at depth and in the field of Biology where there is a growing interest in deep under ground life.

Stem Cell Network
The Stem Cell Network (SCN) is a Canadian not-for-profit that supports stem cell and regenerative medicine research; training the next generation of highly qualified personnel; and knowledge mobilization and transfer of stem cell and regenerative medicine research. From the lab to the clinic, SCN’s goal is to power life-saving therapies and technologies through regenerative medicine research for the benefit of all. Created in 2001, with support from the Government of Canada, the Network has grown from a few dozen labs to more than 270 world-class research groups, supporting over 250 research projects and 30 clinical trials. Since its inception, over 25 biotech companies have been catalyzed or enhanced and more than highly qualified personnel have been trained. In 2021, the Government of Canada demonstrated its continuing trust and support in SCN with an investment of $45 million for the 2022–2025 period. In 2023, the Government of Canada announced additional funding for SCN through the Strategic Science Fund that will support SCN to the end of the decade.

Cerc In Migration & Integration
The forces of globalization have led to unprecedented levels of migration, reshaping the social, political and economic landscape of our world. Never have we needed global cooperation more when it comes to research and policy. Situated in the heart of Canada’s most diverse city, the CERC is a new research hub established in 2019 at Toronto Metropolitan University dedicated to advancing our understanding of contemporary issues in migration. The CERC in Migration and Integration program is led by Chair Anna Triandafyllidou, an internationally recognized sociologist and migration policy expert. Anna leads a diverse research team that is contributing innovative and actionable knowledge concerning migration and post-migration processes, forced and voluntary mobility, and the role of countries of origin and transit. With a special interest in the Canadian context, our team undertakes comparative research among different countries and regions. Our goal is to build a community of academics, policy makers and civil actors to bridge theory and practice in pursuit of a more humanitarian approach to global migration.
