La mission fondamentale de l'Institut est de favoriser l'avancement des connaissances sur l’entrepreneuriat et les PME pour contribuer à leurs développements, de former des étudiants et du personnel hautement qualifié dans ses domaines de recherche. Par ailleurs, il participe au développement des PME et des entrepreneurs en plus d'éclairer les pouvoirs publics en matière de politique d'aide aux entreprises et de soutien à l’entrepreneuriat. Institute For Disability And Rehabilitation Research

The Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (IDRR) is an innovative research hub that investigates issues related to disability and rehabilitation from the perspective of the health sciences and the social sciences and humanities. The IDRR, established in 2021 builds on the work conducted at the Centre for Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (CDPR). The CDPR was created in 2012 through a partnership between the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ontario Tech University and Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). The IDRR is committed to conduct applied research that is relevant to policymakers involved in disability and rehabilitation. Our multidisciplinary team of scientists and graduate students is committed to developing and advocating for innovative strategies and policies to improve the quality of life and well-being of people with disabilities and to develop effective rehabilitation interventions for Canadians and people worldwide. Research activities at the IDRR primarily focus on musculoskeletal and mental health conditions.

The Intelligent Adaptive Interventions group is guided by redesigning technology for people, with applications like education and health behavior change. We combine human-computer interaction and psychology by conducting randomized A/B comparisons in real-world settings. We apply statistics and machine learning methods like multi-armed bandit algorithms to dynamically adapt randomized A/B comparisons to enhance and personalize the experience for future people, balancing practical impact with conducting scientific research. This is managed by undergrads at the IAI Lab.

The University of Waterloo (UW) Journal of Undergraduate Health Research was founded in 2021 by Tara Behroozian and Shayanne Thomas, both undergraduate students in Hon. Health Studies. The UW Journal of Undergraduate Health Research hopes to bring together undergraduate students’ research works related to health from all faculties at the University of Waterloo. This will act as a platform to bring current undergraduate research work to light, while allowing students to make contributions to the field of health research. Having a platform dedicated to publishing undergraduate research work is especially valuable for students as publishing research work during undergraduate studies can be a difficult task to achieve. The opportunity to publish one’s research through a peer-reviewed process can be extremely important for students looking to pursue further professional or graduate studies. Konkussion was founded to address the dire need in the areas of diagnostic and therapeutic research, awareness, education, and clinical management of concussion; the primary goal of which was never for pro t, but to provide appropriate care and advance the field of concussion research. The primary purpose of the five divisions of Konkussion is to develop objective measures of diagnosis and prognostication, standardization of management comprising of effective treatments and overall improvement in the quality of life of patients experiencing this challenging condition. The five divisions are- Clinical Management - The Institute of Education - The Konkussion Retreat (Conference)- Current Research: Concussion (Medical Journal)- Research & Development To address the lack of timely, accessible care for patients with concussions, we have developed a model clinical management program that is available ‘24/7/365’. Immediately following a suspected concussion, an athlete, parent, coach, trainer or worker may avail this facility and ensure that the injured individual is immediately counseled and placed on an evidence-based program for recovery. The importance of ‘24/7/365’ access to care is to ensure early recognition and diagnosis, prevent further injury, and promote early as well as safe return to play, school and work. A concussion may be as serious as a heart attack or stroke if poorly managed, resulting in irreversible brain damage. Our preliminary data with this model of care have shown improved outcomes. To address the lack of standardization in the management of concussions among various practitioners, we have developed the Institute of Education (Toronto, Ontario). The institute comprises a faculty of global experts and researchers in the area of traumatic brain injury and offers a course (with both didactic and practical components) for practitioners to be trained in evidence-based guidelines in the management of concussions. The curriculum of this course is dynamic and is constantly updated based on a rigorous review and critical appraisal of emerging evidence. Our impetus for founding the international peer-reviewed Journal dedicated to concussions was to bridge the gap between concussion awareness and knowledge. The Editorial Board of Current Research: Concussion strives to provide a medium for researchers around the world to share their work and for practitioners to remain on the cut- ting edge of management. The Journal is based on the principles of collaboration in both clinical management and research, in addition to the critical appraisal of data. To foster global collaboration, Konkussion hosted an international concussion conference of global experts with a vested interest in concussion. This conference resulted in a landmark white paper publication paving the path for future work in the field of concussion. The conference leveraged technology to publish, disseminate and implement these guidelines in a short time frame, thus markedly expediting the process of knowledge translation. To address the lack of rigorously controlled trials and critically appraised data, we have established a Research & Development division. Our research focuses on identifying objective measures of diagnosis and effective treatment protocols.
