Laboratoire D'informatique Formelle

The Formal Computer Science Laboratory (in French: Laboratoire d’informatique formelle or LIF) is a research group based in the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics at Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. Faculty and students work on applied research projects combining mathematics and computer systems. Projets led at LIF are funded by both public programs and contributions from the industry. At LIF, we develop new techniques to discover or prevent bugs in computer systems. The expertise of our researchers and students revolves around the following axes- computer security, and in particular the detection of attacks and faults in real time - software testing and verification: how to speed up or even automate the discovery of bugs in a system under development These axes are the source of multiple projects, applied to web applications, network management, video game development and Complex Event Processing, among other things.

Les Enfants Des Possibles En Relations Industrielles

Projet ambitieux né à la fin Août 2016 entre trois étudiants de la maîtrise en relations industrielles de l’Université de Montréal-Sabrina Gobardham, Jonathan Michaud et Guillaume Plourde, les « Enfants des Possibles en Relations Industrielles » cherchent à réconcilier et élargir les différentes visions développées en théories comme en pratiques dans leur champ disciplinaire : le travail. Dans cette perspective, ils se sont donnés comme mission de contribuer à la vie de leur École et de leur champ de spécialité en opérant sur deux fronts complémentaires - un colloque annuel sur un sujet d’actualité- une revue avec des contributions académiques et professionnelles portant sur le même thème que le colloque. Très tôt, ils ont été rejoints dans cette aventure par Caroline Dumouchel-Hudon et Hugo George. Ces-derniers se sont adjoints à deux des membres fondateurs afin de se constituer en personne morale sans but lucratif (OSBL; NEQ : 1172654866). Comme groupe de réflexion (laboratoire d'idées), les « Enfants des Possibles en Relations Industrielles » visent, dans leurs activités, à soutenir l'éducation et la réflexion des générations futures, à faire vivre la recherche en français au Québec et à encourager le dialogue entre les différents partenaires de la relation d'emploi. Premier cercle de réflexion d'origine étudiante en Relations Industrielles à l'Université de Montréal, nous avons la volonté d'innover dans le monde de la recherche au Québec. En mettant en perspective les questions qui font débat dans le champ des Relations Industrielles, nous cherchons à établir des ponts entre les chercheuses et les chercheurs du milieu académique et avec les divers acteurs de la société.

Modal Research

MODAL Research Group began in 2008 as Research for Youth, Music and Education (RYME). Our research still includes a strong focus on youth and music, particularly as music relates to young people’s everyday lives. Many young people who participated in our past research told us about their engagement with music in ways that are increasingly multimodal (involving different modes of expression that include elements from visual arts, language arts, dance, and drama) as well as digital media technologies. We have therefore expanded our research to focus on a comprehensive and systematic study of artistic learning and the multiple pathways through which youth are engaged in and through the arts, particularly in relation to youth-led initiatives and digital media. MODAL researchers share a common vision of multimodal learning, multimedia literacies, and integrated arts education as key ingredients in educating young people in today’s digital and globalized world. Our name MODAL emphasizes the interdisciplinary approaches and interconnectivity of perspectives that we bring to our research, which forms a multimodal ensemble “suggestive of discrete parts brought together as a synthesized whole, where modes, like melodies played on different instruments, are interrelated in complex ways” (MODE, 2012).
