Ubs Center For Economics In Society
The UBS Center for Economics in Society, UBS Center in short, is an Associated Institute at the Department of Economics of the University of Zurich. It was established in 2012, enabled by a founding donation by UBS, which the bank made on the occasion of its 150th anniversary. In view of the generous donation, the university named the UBS Center after its benefactor. The UBS Center serves two main aims. First, it enables world-class research in economics on all levels, to be conducted at the University’s Department of Economics. It thereby supports the department’s ambition to become one of the top economics departments in Europe and to make Zurich one of the best places for research in economics. The UBS Center’s other aim is to serve as a platform for dialogue between academia, business, politics, and the broader public, fostering continuous knowledge transfer. Delivering on these aims will also strengthen the position of Zurich, and Switzerland more generally, as a leading location for education and business. The UBS Center is governed by and financed through an independent foundation, the UBS Foundation of Economics in Society, chaired by former Federal Councillor Kaspar Villiger. It is led by a management team consisting of Prof. Ernst Fehr, Director, Prof. Joachim Voth, Scientific Director and Dr. Matthias Ammann, Chief Operating Officer. The Center’s Advisory Board, comprised of some of the most renowned economists of our time, including several Nobel Prize laureates, ensures the high quality of the work at the UBS Center, and provides guidance on all academic matters. Its members include Nobel Prize laureates Prof. Esther Duflo, Prof. Oliver Hart, Prof. James Heckman, Prof. Daniel Kahneman, Prof. Thomas Sargent, Prof. Robert Shiller, and many more.

Epfl Pv-Lab
The laboratory of photovoltaics and thin-films electronics (PV-lab) of IEM, founded in 1984 by Prof. Arvind Shah and headed by Prof. Christophe Ballif since 2004, has pioneered several new processes for the preparation of thin-film silicon, such as the introduction of very high frequency (VHF) plasma deposition and microcrystalline silicon as an efficient photovoltaic material, and simple processing of heterojunction crystalline cells. Current activities of the laboratory cover a broad spectrum, ranging from fundamental research to industrial technology transfer. The lab masters processes of device fabrication for a wide variety of transparent conductive oxides, thin-film solar cells including perovskite, high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells and perovskite / c-Si tandem solar cells. It also has expertise for specialty detectors. It has full facilities for packaging of PV products. It has been designated as a center of national importance by the Swiss Federal Office for Energy. PV-lab is a founding partner of the CSEM PV-center, which started operation in 2013 with a focus on technology transfer, and industrialisation of technologies.

Institute For Preservation And Construction History Idb , Eth Zurich
Historical buildings characterise our towns and landscapes. The traces of age and use give them each a unique, individual expression. As monuments, they offer guidance over generations, and are material and intellectual components of our individual and collective identity. At the same time, historical objects – regardless of whether or not they are protected as listed monuments – are always authentic testimonies to the history of construction, art and culture. The way they were built, subsequent alterations and the traces of use reflect both the history of the development of craftsmanship and technology over the centuries, and the economic and social conditions of the time when these objects were created and have been in use. These are often legible in detail on the building itself, and bear witness to its history of change, damage and repair. In addition to the building stock of past centuries, younger and even very young buildings are increasingly becoming a topic of preservation and building research. Here, the research mainly focusses on the use of new materials, joining techniques and construction methods as well as contemporary building processes. Architectural and engineering works are of equal interest to the research activities of the Institute of Construction History and Preservation. The scientific approach serves as a basis for the appropriate assessment of historical buildings. It is essential for understanding their history and for developing strategies towards their long-term preservation – as architectural monuments with the least possible impact on their historical substance and expression – or, if necessary, for their transformation. The Institute of Construction History and Preservation collaborates with research institutions and scientific associations in Switzerland and abroad. The exchange and cooperation with the various institutions of Swiss heritage preservation is also a priority.

Life Sciences Switzerland Ls2
Life Sciences Switzerland is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing biological sciences within Swiss Academic Community, and to addressing the social and ethical issues raised by the rapid progress of life sciences. We support researchers by organising events and workshops, distribute young investigator travel grants, reach out to the public and its partner societies, and provide a network to foster scientific exchange. Originally founded around Prof. Eward Weibel as USGEB (Union of Swiss Societies for Experimental Biology) in 1969, the society has a history of nearly 50 years in federating researchers from various Life Sciences disciplines and in promoting their interests towards the public. In 2012, USGEB changed its name to LS2 (Life Sciences Switzerland) under the presidency of Prof. Gisou van der Goot (EPFL). In 2016 three of the founding societies merged, and in 2017, three new sections joined, making LS2 the largest Life Sciences Society in Switzerland. LS2 is the society that integrates all facets of the life sciences, from Biochemistry to Physiology. We are actively reaching out to partner societies, organising workshops and meetings and provide travel grants for young researchers to kick-start their academic career. If you are interested in joining LS2, please register online: LS2 is member of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT). Women's Brain Foundation
Women’s Brain Foundation (WBF) is an international non-profit organization studying sex and gender determinants to brain and mental health. Founded in 2017, the WBF is composed by a group of scientists hailing from various disciplines including medicine, neuroscience, psychology, pharmacology, and communication who work together with caregivers, patients and their relatives, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Born as an Association (Women's Brain Project) we are now a Foundation since March 2024. Our goal is to transform the state of medical treatments and drug development through sex and gender factors as a gateway to precision medicine and care. Health begins with human beings, individuals. Men and women are different when it comes to brain and mental disease frequency, severity, symptomatology and even response to treatments. Through our work, we learned that the scientific world and civil society have not sufficiently acknowledged this issue and are instead still operating under the assumption that a one-size-fits-all approach benefits all. WBF advocates for a paradigm shift in global health towards sustainability by considering the specific biological, psychosocial and economic requirements of each patient, regardless of sex or gender. If this mission matters to you, join our efforts - be part of the change! Follow us on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Cansearch Foundation
The CANSEARCH Foundation raises funds to support and develop in Geneva research projects for children with cancer or blood diseases and is active in stem cell transplantation. Curing a child with cancer was unimaginable 50 years ago. Today, 80% of affected children can be cured. However, cancer is heterogeneous, the overall cure rate is very different depending of the types of cancer and for some, even today, no therapy exists. Research on childhood cancers should help to identify new treatments, but it should also reduce the long-term side effects due to the toxicity of drugs administered during the radio-chemotherapy treatment of the disease. In collaboration with the "Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève" and the "Centre Médical Universitaire", the CANSEARCH Foundation created the first research platform specifically focused on pediatric oncology-hematology in Geneva. Unique in its kind in Switzerland, this platform is developing projects with the aim of improving the understanding and treatment of children with cancer or blood diseases through individualized therapeutic strategies tailored to their genetic makeup. The current scientific projects led by CANSEARCH are focused on leukemia, neuroblastoma, brain tumors and liver cancer. & t=6s
