Global Antibiotic R&d Partnership Gardp
The Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership (GARDP) is a not-for-profit organization that develops new antibiotic treatments for drug-resistant bacterial infections that pose the greatest threat to human health, and makes them accessible to the people who need them. It puts public health needs at the centre of antibiotic drug development to address both the immediate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) crisis and to ensure people continue to get access to essential antibiotics for generations to come. GARDP works through a global network including Brazil, India, Japan, and South Africa for antibiotic development and access. Its work is made possible by essential funding from donors and collaboration with over 100 R&D and access partners in over 20 countries. GARDP was created by the World Health Organization and the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) in 2016 and legally registered as the GARDP Foundation in Geneva, Switzerland in 2018.

At the Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB), basic researchers and clinicians work hand in hand to advance the understanding of vision, its diseases and to develop new therapies for vision loss. The institute is constituted as a foundation. IOB started operations in 2018. At IOB, we accelerate the conversion of basic research into innovative treatments which change the field of ophthalmic therapy. Definitions (within the applied research): • Exploratory applied preclinical research is fundamental research, to solve major clinical problems over an extended timeframe (over ten years). • Translational applied preclinical research aims at developing a clinical applicable result in around five years and builds upon the fundamental applied preclinical research. This research is usually not possible without the previous fundamental applied preclinical research.
