Ihomelab - Research Center For Building Intelligence
The iHomeLab team at the Lucerne School of Engineering & Architecture is researching how intelligent buildings can reduce energy consumption or enable older people to live longer in their own homes. The results of the research projects are presented in the iHomeLab Visitor Center on the Campus in Horw and explained in an comprehensible way. The main research areas of the iHomeLab are "Active Assisted Living"- living independently in a smart home into old age thanks to networked connectivity,"Smart Energy Management"- improving energy management in buildings without compromising comfort, and "Safe Building Intelligence"- providing customized support through intelligent buildings. The iHomeLab is the unique showcase that presents current research projects in the way of narratives, making technology and research tangible and understandable.

Adolphe Merkle Institute
The Adolphe Merkle Institute (AMI) is an independent competence center at the University of Fribourg that focuses on research and education in the domain of soft nanomaterials. We owe our existence to Dr. Adolphe Merkle, a successful local entrepreneur, who established the Foundation bearing his name with the goal of strengthening research and teaching at the University of Fribourg. This in turn led to the constitution of AMI. His CHF 100 million endowment remains one of the most important private donations in Switzerland in favor of academic research. Founded in 2008, AMI is in many aspects unique in the landscape of Switzerland’s research institutions. Our focus on soft nanomaterials is unmatched in Switzerland and beyond. Our research combines fundamental and application-oriented aspects in a multidisciplinary setting. Through collaborations with industrial partners, AMI aims to stimulate innovation, foster industrial competitiveness, and more generally, improve the quality of life. Our researchers are currently organized in four research groups that offer complementary expertise and interests in strategically important areas: BioNanomaterials, Polymer Chemistry & Materials, Soft Matter Physics, and BioPhysics. Interdisciplinary collaborations between our researchers are the basis for the successful and efficient execution of complex research projects that transcend the boundaries of traditional scientific disciplines. The ARTORG is a Competence Center of the University of Bern and together with the Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, creates the medical technology hub of Switzerland's capital. The Department of Clinical Research is your first point of contact when it comes to any aspect of clinical research, from concept to study conduct and on-site management. The Clinical Investigation Unit (CIU), Clinical Trials Unit (CTU Bern) and Medical Data Science (MDS) Unit work together under the DCR umbrella to provide comprehensive support for patient-centered research. Clinical studies are a prerequisite for advancing our understanding and treatment of diseases. They provide relevant information on disease pathogenesis, epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation when conducted according to established scientific standards. The complexity of clinical research has been growing steadily. The Department of Clinical Research (DCR) provides the central organization for expertise, innovation, leadership, contemporary pedagogy, and centralized facilities for supporting clinical researchers. We work across multiple collaborations at the Faculty of Medicine and the Inselspital. DCR is the academic center for knowledge transfer and services related to clinical research. It offers clinical researchers full support from study design to study conduct. CROss Alliance® is the brand name for CROSS Research SA, a private Swiss Contract Research Organization (CRO) active in the field of clinical drug development. The group was founded in 1996 with an high specialisation in Phase I studies and early drug development; today the group staff accounts for 38 units and manages clinical trials from Phase I to Phase in Swiss and EU clinical sites. With a portfolio of more than 500 clinical studies performed both in healthy volunteers and patients, CROss Alliance team has built “on the field” a deep knowledge of several clinical areas, among them: Anaesthesiology, Bioavailability studies, Cardiac safety, Central Nervous System, Dermatology, Gastroenterology and Pain. While the HQ is located in Mendrisio, CROSS Research SA has its Phase I Unit in Arzo (Canton Ticino), in a 825sqm facility equipped with 26 beds. In this independent building, Phase I studies are carried out in healthy volunteers and special populations with the aim of assessing drug safety, kinetics and disposition, establishing kinetic-dynamic relationships, measuring drug time-course of action in order to propose proper therapeutic dose regimens and fulfil the regulatory requests. The whole activity of data management, biostatistics and PK analysis are based on international guidelines and are performed following CROss Alliance and/or Sponsor's quality requirements and specific SOPs.
