The German Cancer Society e. V.(DKG) based in Berlin - a successor organization to the "Comité for Cancer Collection Research" founded in 1900 - is the largest scientific and oncological society in Germany. The more than individual members in 25 working groups, the 16 regional cancer societies and 36 supporting members are active in the complex field of oncology. The DKG is committed to cancer care based on evidence-based medicine, interdisciplinarity and consistent quality standards. It focuses primarily on - the certification of centers for oncological treatment- the creation of evidence-based treatment guidelines and patient guidelines in the oncology guideline program- knowledge development and knowledge transfer- the improvement of information for patients. The DKG is one of the co-initiators of the National Cancer Plan, which the Federal Ministry of Health launched in 2008. In the "National Decade Against Cancer", which was started in 2019 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the DKG is part of the strategy group and is co-chair of the working group "Generating knowledge by networking research and care". The DKG organizes the German Cancer Congress as well as other conferences and symposia every two years. The tasks also include committee work with politicians, specialist societies and associations. The DKG represents Germany in international organizations such as the Union for International Cancer Control, the Association of European Cancer Leagues and the EU.

Direct Manufacturing Research Center Dmrc
Additive manufacturing technologies offer substantial benefits, particularly when applied to direct manufacturing for end-use component production. Consequently, interest in additive manufacturing has been steadily increasing across science, industry, and education. In this context, the Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC) conducts research in additive manufacturing with the goal of enabling and improving its industrial use for direct production. The center’s research outcomes support industrial applications and contribute to advancing academic education in this field. The DMRC consists of two organizational pillars: DMRC e.V.(the industry consortium) and DMRC Academic (the academic research organization). The DMRC is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Paderborn. Its structure is flexible and highly interdisciplinary; depending on the research focus, the composition of participating chairs can be adapted. Currently, nine chairs with eleven professors and a large team of researchers collaborate within the DMRC. Within the DMRC e.V, industrial partners jointly define research topics and project priorities. These projects are then carried out by DMRC Academic. The project portfolio includes DMRC-exclusive research projects as well as national and international collaborative research initiatives. All projects are closely guided by the industrial partners, ensuring strong application relevance, high knowledge transfer, and significant contributions to scientific and technological progress.

The DST is an international research institute with more than 60 years of experience in the areas of inland and coastal shipping and transport systems. Key elements of the DST business are the investigation of the special flow conditions of ships in inland and coastal waters with restricted depths and the support of the inland navigation sector in the development and modernization of vessels. In addition, wave and tidal power plants as well as many other special projects are dealt with. Furthermore, issues of traffic engineering and -logistics as well as transport economics are in focus with the objective to access new potential of inland navigation and thus contribute to economic and ecological approaches to meet the increasing demand for transport.

Facility For Antiproton And Ion Research In Europe Gmbh
FAIR, Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research, is a new international accelerator facility for the research with antiprotons and ions. It will be built in cooperation of an international community of countries and scientists. On October, 4th 2010, the international owners founded the FAIR GmbH and the countries' representatives signed a treaty under international law (Convention, Final Act). The facility will be financed by a joint international effort of so far ten member states. The Federal Republic of Germany together with the State of Hesse is the major contributor to the construction, the current nine international partners - Finland, France, India, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom - bear ca. 30% of the construction cost. FAIR will be a host laboratory for basic research for about scientists from about 50 countries.

The Fraunhofer IMW ceased operations as an independent institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as of March 31, 2025. Since January 2025, the departments of Regional Transformation and Innovation Policy, as well as Knowledge and Technology Transfer, have continued their research as the Leipzig branch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI. The Department of Technology Economics and Management, based in Halle (Saale), transitioned to the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS as of January 1, 2025. For eighteen years, the Fraunhofer IMW shaped applied socio- and techno-economic research and gained extensive experience in international projects at its Leipzig location. The institute and its experts possessed renowned competencies in internationalization, innovation and technology management, technology economics, structural change, regional transformation, data and platform economy, digital value creation, strategy development, and knowledge economy. Originally founded in 2006 as the Fraunhofer Center for Central and Eastern Europe MOEZ, the institute underwent a strategic and thematic realignment in 2016, reflected in its new name: Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW. The Center for Economics and Management of Technologies complemented the Leipzig-based Fraunhofer IMW’s portfolio as its branch in Halle (Saale), contributing expertise in materials science and techno-economic research. This transition into the Fraunhofer IMW took place on January 1, 2020. As a result, the Fraunhofer IMW was most recently represented not only in the Free State of Saxony but also in Saxony-Anhalt.

We conduct research to improve lives and livelihoods shaped by violent conflict, fragility and humanitarian emergencies. OUR APPROACH We collect and analyse data, derive evidence-based policy advice and build capacity. We draw on theory, data, and statistics to inform policies that are evidence-based, ethical, equitable and effective. We focus our analysis at the micro level, studying how individuals, households, groups and firms react to and cope with extreme adversity – and how policies can best support people and institutions under such conditions. We combine quantitative and qualitative methods and work with international partners from multiple disciplines and sectors. OUR PARTNERSHIPS While based in Berlin, the global relevance of our work leads us to engage in research and advisory projects around the world. The quality of our research and impact is critically shaped by engaging with strong partners in the countries where we work, including national and local governments, non-governmental organizations and civil society organisations, and international organizations. We enjoy collaborating with researchers from around the world, exchanging ideas and experiences.
