Foam Technologies At Fraunhofer Ict
The foam technologies group at Fraunhofer ICT conducts research on the efficient production of innovative foamed thermoplastics with customised properties, which are used in transport packaging, thermal insulation in buildings and the automotive sector, among others. Traditional as well as bio-based and technical polymers are being investigated. In addition to material development, the optimisation and redesign of manufacturing processes also plays a central role - be it in the production of semi-finished products using the direct extrusion process, particle foaming by means of extrusion with underwater pelletising or in the autoclave process. Current research topics include the use of renewable raw materials and recyclates in polymer compounds as well as the targeted use of functional additives to improve mechanical properties, temperature resistance and environmentally friendly flame retardancy.

Forschungsverbund Fordaysec
Institute For Computational Mechanics Wall Lab
The Institute for Computational Mechanics (LNM) is committed to what can best be described as cutting-edge “application-motivated fundamental research” in a broad range of areas in computational mechanics, with applications spanning all engineering fields and the applied sciences. With a strong basis in a variety of advanced single-field problems (like computational solid, fluid, and transport dynamics), a special focus lies on coupled multifield and multiscale problems (like fluid-structure interaction, contact dynamics, thermo-structure interaction, electro-chemo-mechano-thermo interaction, opto-acoustics, porous media, multiphase transport, etc.). The main applications at the moment are challenging problems in computational biophysics (on sub-cellular and cellular scale), biomedical engineering (like modeling of respiratory and vascular systems, cardiac modeling, cancer growth, musculoskeletal system, etc.), metal additive manufacturing (on all scales, i.e. from powders to piece) and (all-solid-state) batteries. In all these areas, LNM covers the full spectrum from advanced modeling and developing novel computational methods to sophisticated software development and application-oriented simulations on high-performance computing systems. Meanwhile, research activities also include optimization, inverse analysis, uncertainty quantification, machine learning, and experimental work. In collaboration with leading researchers worldwide as well as national and international industrial partners, LNM expedites projects at the front line of research. Institute For Mobility And Digital Innovation
We explore how digital technologies shape the future of mobility and how they contribute to more sustainable mobility systems. The Institute for Mobility and Digital Innovation transfers digital principles to the field of transportation. Digital technologies have fundamentally changed the world we live in and they are about to change the mobility sector, too. The times are over when automotive companies are the sole driver of mobility innovation. Digital technologies will enable new vehicles, new services, a different use of mobility assets, and change mobility behavior as we know it. Leveraging advances in mobile technologies, smart sensors and data analysis, the Institute for Digital Innovation and Mobility provides insights into a digital approach to mobility. These insights help to better understand mobility systems and the people who use them. Our cities and every mobility company that wants to survive in a digital age will need such an understanding.
