International Centre For Defence And Security Icds
The ICDS is a non-partisan independent think-tank based in Tallinn, Estonia. Our mission is to-Strengthen Estonia’s security and defence sector by identifying and analysing national security and defence challenges and proposing policy solutions-Sharpen strategic thinking in NATO and the EU on security issues that affect the Nordic-Baltic region by offering timely and high-quality analysis and policy recommendations-Contribute to enhancing Estonia’s intellectual role within NATO and the EU by developing forward-looking and innovative policy ideas and strategic solutions for the common European and transatlantic security and defence agenda-Raise public awareness and stimulate public debate on security, defence and foreign policy matters. In pursuit of its mission, we-conduct research on security, defence and foreign policy issues-hold two annual major security, defence and foreign policy events – the Lennart Meri Conference (LMC) and the Annual Baltic Conference on Defence (ABCD)-organise Estonian National Defence Course-publish a monthly magazine, Diplomaatia, and conduct various outreach activities to engage relevant audiences in Estonia, among NATO and EU allies and in partner countries. We organise our research into three broad programmes-Defence Policy and Strategy under which the ICDS aims to advance strategic thought on the key issues of transatlantic, European, regional and national defence (‘hard security’)-Security and Resilience through which ICDS addresses non-military threats to national and international security (‘soft security’ issues) and the ways of building broad-based national resilience-International Affairs and Foreign Policy which aims to advance strategic thinking about the short, medium and long-term foreign policy and geopolitical issues affecting Estonia, NATO and the EU. This is the remit of our Estonian Foreign Policy Institute (EFPI)-part of ICDS since January 2018.

Road Technology Centre - Teede Tehnokeskus
Road Technology Centre - RTC, a government-owned company, specializes in road sector innovation and expertise, including ITS and road weather information system. Our unique TIK solution, featuring tiniest embedded road sensors, IoT based mini road weather stations and snow height sensors, provides precise real-time data and input for accurate road weather forecasting. The system integrates sensor data, camera images, weather radar layers and several weather models to provide actionable insights for traffic safety. These capabilities allow us to offer highly accurate weather predictions across the world. This system communicates directly with maintenance vehicles, offering real-time updates and predictive maintenance alerts, enhancing collective awareness and decision-making for CCAM applications. We use a modern 3D Road Imaging System for precise road condition mapping with mobile technology that collects both panoramic images and point clouds. In addition to the road itself, the 3D road image system includes the entire area around the road for tens and even hundreds of meters. We also provide pavement thermal measurements (TGS) which measures the installation temperature of asphalt pavements in real-time, ensuring uniformity and quality of asphalt, reducing the probability of infrastructure failures and extending the lifespan of road surfaces. Our traffic safety studies, material analyses, and profitability assessments contribute to the development of better road infrastructure. RDC also offers supervision services for highways, streets, bridges, railways, and airports, ensuring compliance with construction standards.

Institute Of Genomics, University Of Tartu
From January 1st, 2018 University of Tartu has a new Institute of Genomics, which was established by merging Estonian Genome Center and Estonian Biocentre (joined University of Tartu January 1st, 2018). Institute of Genomics contributes to transdisciplinary research and application based on omics reseach and methods and also teaches University of Tartu students. Institute of Genomics was established to promote greater synergy between genomic-based research, teaching and other scientific fields. This allows more effective collaboration with different research centres and universities and greater recognition among global scientific community. New institute also allows more effective use of infrastructure, competence, contacts and helps develop new partnerships with private sector. Structure Institute of Genomics is made up of four departments: • Estonian Genome Center: Science Center gathers previous research groups of the University of Tartu Estonian Genome Center; • Estonian Biocentre gathers previous research groups of the University of Tartu Estonian Biocentre; • Core Facility Core facility operates the laboratory e.g. performing genotyping and sequencing and performs genetic data analysis; • Estonian Genome Center collects genetic information about the Estonian population health and heridity, advances genetic research and applies findings in research in Estonian healthcare system. From January 1st, 2018 Institute of Genomics is an independent institute, however, by January 1st, 2021 it will join the University of Tartu Faculty of Science and Technology. By the end of 2020, the board of Institute of Genomics will decide proposals for structural changes and by December 31st, 2020 a new name for the institute will be announced.

Estonian-Swedish Mental Health And Suicidology Institute
ERSI is a non-governmental R&D organization established in 1993 in collaboration with Karolinska Institute, Sweden. ERSI is the strategic partner of the Estonian Ministry of Social Affairs and the member of the Estonian Mental Health and Well-being Coalition (VATEK; ERSI has specific expertise in the field of mental health, wellbeing, and suicidal behaviours. ERSI contributes to capacity building and policy making by integrating outcomes of evidence-based research into the area of public mental health practice. ERSI has collaborative contacts with leading universities in Estonia. The main focus of R&D activities of ERSI has been on epidemiology, mental health promotion, prevention of mental disorders (particularly depression, anxiety, suicidality) and risk behaviours (alcohol abuse, bullying etc), evaluation of interventions, dissemination and integration of research into policies and practice, raising awareness, collecting and administering individual level data, and also building IT solutions and managing information exchange for project consortiums. ERSI has multidisciplinary team with qualifications in diverse areas – psychiatry, public health, social work, sociology, demography, psychology, economics and law.
