Co-Carbon
CO-CARBON on STN:n rahoittama hanke, joka tutkii ja pyrkii tehostamaan yksilöiden, yhteisöjen ja kaupunkien hiilen varastointia kaupunkiviheralueilla. Kaupunkivihreällä on merkittävä rooli ilmastonmuutoksen hillitsemisessä sekä sen vaikutuksiin sopeutumisessa. CO-CARBON on monialainen tutkimushanke, jonka tavoitteena on mitata ja mallintaa kaupunkivihreän hiilensidontakykyä. Uusia ratkaisuja hiiliviisaan kaupunkivihreän suunnitteluun, toteutukseen ja ylläpitoon kehitetään paitsi tieteellisen tutkimuksen keinoin myös vuorovaikutteisesti yhdessä asukkaiden, yritysten, kaupunkien ja muiden toimijoiden kanssa. CO-CARBON-hankkeessa kehitetään käytäntöjä, joilla hiilen sitoutumista tehostetaan yhdessä muiden ekologisten ja sosiaalisten hyötyjen kanssa. Tutkimusryhmään kuuluu ilmakehä, maaperä- ja sosiaalitieteilijöitä sekä maisema-arkkitehteja. Tutkimusta tehdään yhteissuunnittelun keinoin kaupunkivihreän käyttäjien, suunnittelijoiden ja rakentajien sekä kaupunkien viranomaisten kanssa. Tavoitteena on lisätä tietoisuutta ja edistää hiilensidontaa parantavien päätösten tekemistä. CO-CARBON-hanke toteutetaan Helsingin yliopiston, Aalto-yliopiston, Ilmatieteen laitoksen, Hämeen ammattikorkeakoulun ja Kööpenhaminan yliopiston yhteistyönä. Hanketta rahoittaa Suomen Akatemian yhteydessä toimivan strategisen tutkimuksen neuvosto (STN). CO-CARBON on osa STN:n Ilmastonmuutos ja Ihminen -tutkimusohjelmaa (CLIMATE).** The aim of CO-CARBON is to quantify the carbon storage of green spaces at different urban scales using novel measurements and process-based models at the same time when accounting for other socio-ecological factors, and support practical operations for the multiple planning and management needs of carbon-smart green spaces. The aim is to have carbon-smart green spaces to become a well-recognized part of urban transition at different societal levels.

Nextskins
NextSkins is an international consortium of researchers developing skin-inspired engineered living materials for everyday This is what we are working on. We are generating novel living materials based on a grown matrix hosting engineered multicellular consortia that build and functionalise these different layers. Spatiotemporal patterning is realised by genetic control and the physicochemical properties of cells and biomolecules. As a powerful strategy to accelerate the adoption of our living materials in society, we will systematically involve the potential end- users and designers in our research for the materials and product development to happen in synergy. Euro-BioImaging is the European landmark research infrastructure for biological and biomedical imaging as recognised by the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), and with the ERIC legal status (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) by the European Commission in November 2019. Euro-BioImaging ERIC is a joint effort of 18 countries and EMBL. The mission of Euro-BioImaging ERIC as a distributed research infrastructure is to provide open access to world-class imaging services, training opportunities, data management services and expertise at nearly 250 world-class imaging facilities across Europe organised in Nodes. Every researcher in academia or industry, independent of research area, level of expertise, or geographical location, can apply for Euro-BioImaging services, which they do not have ready access to at their home institute, just by submitting a short application or contacting us via our website Euro-BioImaging effectively bridges the biological and biomedical imaging communities and enables innovative and world-class research, thus boosting the productivity and impact of research across Europe. This fully distributed European research infrastructure is managed by the tripartite Hub, which consists of a Statutory Seat in Turku, Finland, a community-specific section for biological imaging at EMBL (Heidelberg) and the community-specific section for biomedical imaging in Torino, Italy.
