Luhmann Conference

Luhmann Conference. Observing social systems since 1980 During the 1980s, Hans-Ulrich Gumbrecht and Ludwig Pfeiffer organised a series of great conferences at the Inter-University Centre of post-graduate studies (IUC) in Dubrovnik, then in the former SFR of Yugoslavia, now Croatia. As of 1981, Niklas Luhmann attended these conferences. Contributions to these conferences were published in a series of five voluminous volumes at the important Suhrkamp Verlag (Der Diskurs der Literatur- und Sprachhistorie, 1983; Epochenschwellen und Epochenstrukturen im Diskurs der Literatur- und Sprachhistorie, 1985; Stil, 1986; Materialität der Kommunikation, 1988, Paradoxien, Dissonanzen, Zusammenbrüche, 1991). A considerable share of these studies pertained to semantic history and the system theory of art. The IUC was bombed in 1991 and, for some years, the conferences could not take place. The series resumed subsequent to the complete restoration of the IUC premises and, in turning increasingly international, became known under the sub-headlines “Observed with Niklas Luhmann’s systems theory” or “Observed with social systems theory”, respectively.

RHOXYZ is the easiest CFD tool to quickly setup, simulate and analyze fluids. It is a Lagrangian and mesh-free general-purpose CFD solver for solving complex flows in complex domains. The fluid body evolves freely in space, interacting with freely moving and deforming bodies. Setting up the simulation is immediate, it completely skips meshing. Everything is computed in parallel on the GPU or CPU, and free movements allow for large time steps. Seaclear 1.0 & 2.0 Projects

Today's oceans contain 26-66 million tons of waste, with approximately 94% located on the seafloor. So far, collection efforts have focused mostly on surface waste, with only a few local efforts to gather underwater waste, always using human divers. No solution exists that exploits autonomous robots for underwater litter collection; the SeaClear project is developing the first. The follow-on project, SeaClear2.0, will develop an integrated approach to address the entire cycle of marine litter.This will be achieved by using teams of autonomous, intelligent robots to monitor and collect marine seafloor and surface litter, and through participatory practices to identify site-specific measures for marine litter prevention and reduction. By identifying ways to valorise litter and extend policy-making, SeaClear2.0 will provide innovative solutions for effective marine litter management, further promoting the health of oceans, seas, and water bodies.
