The Research and Development (R&D) Unit within the Department of Health and Social Care, aims to integrate healthcare, academia, the third sector and industry, through research. We hope to encourage innovation, development and knowledge by establishing a culture of quality improvement, research and innovation. Our mission is to support and facilitate research that is efficient, cost-effective and responsive. R&D aims to improve patient care and well being through safer, more efficient and effective treatments, care and other services, developed and tested through ethical and scientifically sound research. Our core values are to ensure the integrity, transparency, quality, rigour and impact of research conducted. We aim to include patients, service users and the public in our work by giving them an opportunity to participate in health and social care research with the ability to get involved in its design, management, conduct and dissemination.
