University Of Maragheh Research & Technology
The University of Maragheh was established in 1987 as an Agricultural Research Institute with the purpose of training expert forces at high academic levels. It was promoted to the Faculty of Agriculture in and upgraded to the Higher Education Center in 2005. Finally, in 2009 the Council of Higher Education Development agreed to designate it as the University of Maragheh. To date, as a state-owned university in the south of East Azerbaijan province, the university continues to fulfill its mission and can be regarded as a young and developing university. The university has trained expert forces, setting quality as its priority. It has been in a position to become a leading academic institution in the region and the country. According to the latest ranking that covers 130 universities, the University of Maragheh stood 30th. This university currently has four faculties of agriculture, science, engineering, and humanities; one institute for astronomy and astrophysics, and one center for technological growth. Students have enrolled in Ph.D, Master’s, and Bachelor’s programs taught by devoted and expert faculty members to accomplish the objectives delineated in Iran’s Vision Document. This university attempts to play an effective role in the higher education system of the region. The University of Maragheh offers 71 degree courses and has more than students in bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. It also has 147 faculty members, of which 17 are full professors, 53 associate professors, 74 assistant professors, and 3 instructors. This university currently has a memorandum of understanding with 12 international universities (from Italy, Azerbaijan, Turkey, the Republic of Cyprus, Mexico, etc.) to exchange professors and students.

Center for "Infrastructure Sustainability and Resilience Research"(INSURER) was established with the objective of bringing together multiple disciplines for high-caliber research on sustainability and resilience of civil infrastructure. Resilience is the ability of infrastructure to absorb shocks and recover quickly to serviceability in the face of probable hazard events in their life cycle. In turn, sustainability is the ability of infrastructure to facilitate meeting society's present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Moving towards a resilient and sustainable society requires multidisciplinary research on probabilistic modeling and simulation of hazards, the performance of infrastructure, the ensuing impacts, and the process of decision making for recovery, on quantification of sustainability and resilience measures for the society, and on developing software tools for evaluation of policies on optimal enhancement of sustainability and resilience given limited resources. This is the primary mission of INSURER.
