R3c - Responsible Risk Resilience Centre

Responsible Risk Resilience Centre (R3C - https://r3c.polito.it/) is an Interdepartmental Research Centre of Politecnico di Torino, which is also the first research centre in Italy dedicated to studying territorial resilience in response to natural and human-made risks. Its mission is to map and reduce territorial vulnerabilities, support the resilience of communities and human heritage, infrastructures, ecosystems, and built environment, while promoting institutional capacity, social well-being, and spatial equity through integrated, place-based strategies. Established at a time when territorial resilience was not yet part of mainstream policy discourse, the Centre focuses on identifying environmental and socio-economic vulnerabilities in order to design resilient solutions. R3C adopts a multi-risk, interdisciplinary approach to identify environmental and socio-economic vulnerabilities, aiming to co-develop integrated and place-based solutions. Its goal is to Support institutions, communities, and businesses in the green and just transition of territories, understand territorial vulnerability through a multi-risk approach, and Design integrated solutions and strategies for territorial regeneration and resilience. With over 50 faculty members and researchers, R3C brings together experts from seven departments of Politecnico di Torino, spanning disciplines such as urban studies, structural engineering, mobility, energy, mathematics, and environmental sciences. This diverse expertise enables the Centre to address resilience through a systemic and transdisciplinary lens. Its interdisciplinary work is structured around five thematic research clusters: Preserving Cultural Heritage, Planning the Resilient City, Measuring Urban Resilience,Resilient Landscapes and Ecosystem Well-being, and Resilient Transition and Sustainable Energy.

Res.M Hub

The Research Centre for Responsibility, Ethics and Sustainability in Management aims at promoting and carrying out basic and applied scientific activities related to sustainability in the field of business economics, corporate social and environmental responsibility and business ethics. The centre aims to produce trans-disciplinary and international research results and to actively engage in promoting the integration of social and environmental sustainability in corporate strategy and performance. The centre aims to: a) promote seminars, conferences, debates, meetings also of international character and involving different disciplines b) promote innovative training activities capable of generating key competences in the field of sustainability; c) collaborate with companies and professional associations interested in the centre's themes and activities; d) collaborate in the organisation and delivery of university masters and professional training courses; e) actively participate in national and international conventions and conferences on topics of interest to the centre; f) stimulate the publication of valuable scientific contributions in national and international journals; g) create a stable link between the management world, scientific research and university teaching; h) design and deliver appropriate training content at the specific request of organisations, institutions, companies and other community stakeholders; i) carry out research, evaluations and studies at the specific request of bodies, institutions, companies and other community subjects; j) work in partnership with institutions, policy makers and all relevant stakeholders.

Res4net

The Res4Net laboratory network arises from the realization that the languages and channels of scientific communication are changing. Young digital native researchers prefer social media and non-verbal communication for sharing their scientific results. The recent pandemic was an occasion in which new models of communication were experimented on a large scale. The Res4Net network of laboratories is proposed as a group to think, practice and promote, without profit, the new scientific communication with particular attention to collaboration and interdisciplinary integration. Res4Net does not formally bind its members and offers them the opportunity to increase the visibility of their scientific production. Members are offered support services for the development of multimedia products and guidance on the effective use of new media. There is also a space on dedicated blogs and social channels. In addition, seminars and public debates are promoted to increase reflection on the theme of new forms of scientific communication. Res4Net, therefore, makes its own and further enriches the aims of the Public Visibility initiative. Currently, the researchers belonging to the network come from 14 Italian universities and research institutes: Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino, Università degli Studi di Padova, Università di Pisa, Università degli Studi di Siena, Università degli Studi di Perugia, Università degli Studi della Tuscia di Viterbo, Sapienza Università di Roma, ICAR-CNR, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Politecnico di Bari, Università del Salento, Università degli Studi di Messina, Università degli Studi di Cagliari. Born from a group of Italian researchers, Res4Net aims to reach an international dimension as soon as possible.

Rivista Italiana di Filosofia Analitica Junior (Italian Journal of Analytic Philosophy Junior) is the very first Italian project providing space to early-stage philosophical research. In our journal, you can read articles proposed by undergraduate, BA/MA and Ph.D. students, concerning the main themes of analytic philosophy and peer-reviewed by our Scientific Board, as well as material produced by the editorial staff (book reviews, conference reports, interviews). RIFAJ is officially sponsored by SIFA (Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy) and supported by DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals). Since November 2011, the journal is hosted by Riviste UNIMI, under the joint management of the University of Milan and 4Science. Rimmel - Rivestimenti Multi-Funzionali E Multi-Scala, Per Componenti Meccanici In Acciaio E Leghe

L’entrata in campo di nuove tecnologie di fabbricazione dei materiali interpella pesantemente la scienza e la tecnologia connesse con la loro funzionalizzazione mediante trattamenti e/o ricoprimenti superficiali. Questo è particolarmente vero per il settore di componenti metallici per la meccanica, dove cresce l’importanza della fabbricazione mediante additive manufacturing. Il progetto si propone di sviluppare tecnologie di fabbricazione e metodologie di caratterizzazione/validazione di rivestimenti multifunzionali multiscala, per componenti meccanici in acciaio e leghe di alluminio fabbricati mediante additive manufacturing. L’indagine è focalizzata su rivestimenti la cui multifunzionalità sarà modulata da configurazioni multistrato (eventualmente micro-nano additivate) terminate da materiali autolubrificanti come diamond-like carbon (DLC), carburo di tungsteno (WC/C), disolfuro di molibdeno (MoS2). Le funzionalità ricercate saranno principalmente relative alle performances tribologiche (attrito, usura, tribocorrosione) e meccaniche (statiche e dinamiche) del rivestimento, associate alle proprietà di resistenza alla corrosione e alla idrofobicità e oleofilicità, funzionalità queste ultime in grado di impattare sulla durabilità e sulla lubrificazione, rispettivamente. L’approccio multiscala sarà orientato a esplorare e definire limiti dimensionali e di miniaturizzazione compatibili con il mantenimento delle performances, con l’obiettivo: i) di risparmio di materie prime e ridotti tempi di fabbricazione; ii) di capacità dei rivestimenti di essere morfologicamente mimetici o compensativi del substrato; di identificare e valorizzare possibili implementazioni delle performances originate dalla ridotta dimensionalità.

Grazie alle capacità della compagine sociale, l’azienda ha come obiettivo quello di sviluppare, produrre e commercializzare prodotti e/o servizi innovativi ad alto valore tecnologico, ambientale e sociale, nel settore dell'economia circolare, in particolar modo per la progettazione, la realizzazione e la vendita di nuovi prodotti derivati da sottoprodotti. La società Rinnovative far parte della rete d’impresa soggetto APEA “Cartoneco” per la realizzazione e la promozione di servizi tecnologici per la sperimentazione di innovative tecniche di produzione, con la possibilità di condividere lavorazioni e macchine, per creare nuovi prodotti o nuovi processi produttivi, più efficienti, innovativi. Nella fase sperimentale, insieme alle altre sette società partecipanti, ha iniziato a scambiarsi il sottoprodotto cartone, certificato come tale, che diventa così la materia prima di scambio e di recupero creativo. Con Determinazione del 1 marzo 2022 n. la Direzione per lo Sviluppo Economico, le Attività Produttive e la Ricerca della Regione Lazio, ha riconosciuto e attribuito la qualifica di “APEA Regionale” all'Istanza della rete CARTONECO. Viste le competenze della compagine sociale, Rinnovative svolge anche servizi di Ricerca e sviluppo sperimentale nel campo delle scienze naturali e dell'ingegneria conto terzi, con particolare riferimento alle tematiche di sostenibilità ambientale, economia circolare e sviluppo prodotti innovativi.

Star Research Infrastructure

The STAR infrastructure opens new possibilities of investigation in all the Material Science fields exploiting its un-precedented high energy X-rays and the large probed areas. Their high penetration depths will allow to examine the internal structure of materials together with their chemical composition and physical structure by means of a non-invasive and non-destructive techniques. An intrinsic peculiarity of the techniques allowed by STAR is the possibility to get full-scale evidences on large objects as devices and handictrafts. This is the way to recover information by looking to the hidden layers with resolution down to few micrometres making use of the high contrast given by varying chemical composition and/or density of the investigated material. STAR is designed as a User Facility open to the researcher as the large user facilities such as Synchrotrons.

The Torkel Opsahl Academic EPublisher (TOAEP) furthers the objective of excellence in research, scholarship and education by publishing worldwide, in print and through the Internet. Established in 2010, it is the first open-access international law publisher. In November 2022, TOAEP as the first publisher (with its entire catalogue of publications by more than 920 authors) was certified by the Digital Public Goods Alliance as a digital public good. Morten Bergsmo is the founder and responsible Editor-in-Chief of the TOAEP. TOAEP is owned by the Centre for International Law Research and Policy (CILRAP), incorporated in Brussels, but TOAEP also enjoys a working office in the historic CILRAP Bottega in Florence.
