Iisnc Under The Auspices Of Unesco
International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations (IISNC), a Category II Institute under the auspices of UNESCO, was established on 16 September 1998 after the Indonesian, Kazakhstani, Kyrgyzstani, Mongolian and Turkish governments concluded a multilateral agreement for its establishment at the initiative of UNESCO and with the support of its former Director-General, Mr. Federico Mayor The idea for an international institute to study nomadic civilizations emerged during the Nomads’ Expedition in Mongolia, which was organized by UNESCO in 1992 as part of the Silk Roads Project when an international team recommended an institute. The recommendation was confirmed by UNESCO at its 27th Session of the General Conference, held in 1993. The Institute was founded with two founding aims — preserving the unique historical and cultural heritage of nomads, and actively contributing to the development of appropriate elements of modernization for the continual improvement of nomadic life. Since its foundation, Professor Jacques Legrand (France) has been serving as the Chairperson of the Institute’s Academic Council. The Secretariat of the Institute is based in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. At present, it has three organizational units and 10 staff members. Mongolian Forest Research Association Ngo
Mongolian Forest Research Association (MFRA) NGO was established in 2003 as Mongolian Forest Research Foundation. It was renamed as Mongolian Forest Research Association in 2011. MFRA currently has 10 members, including researchers of Institute of Botanical Garden, MAS. All members have higher level education in forestry, biology and botany. The association has worked in the field of the environment, ecology-biology and forestry research, training, advocacy, project implementation and evaluation. Since our association was established, training and advocacy in field of forest for university and college students, local communities, forest experts of forest professional organizations are regularly organized. 8 books and over 250 scientific articles in field of forests and conservancy were written and published. Members of Mongolian forest research association carry out study on forest stand structure, productivity and growth in Central Khangai, Northeastern Khangai, Eastern Khentey, Western Khentey regions and has 16 permanent monitoring plots of thinning since 1979. As a result of the study, “Forest mensuration handbook of Mongolia” book was published. Research results which were carried out by researchers during about 30 years were reflected in this instruction and regulations. We cooperate with forest professional organizations and universities and organize training on “Conducting thinning in the forests”, “demonstration training on salvage cutting in the burned forests“ for forest professional organizations and forest user groups.
