Decising Research Group
Driven by real world challenges on the frontiers of engineering and management, and grounded on the principles of decision-making and decision-aiding theory, the Decision Science and Management Engineering (DECISING) branch of CEG-IST is a multimethodological area that develops methods, models, decision-support tools and knowledge to assist engineering management practice in complex contexts that involve diverse stakeholders, multiple objectives and several sources of uncertainty. At DECISING we follow a collaborative-learning constructivist paradigm integrating socio-technical processes to design sustainable solutions to problems of performance appraisal and value measurement, evaluation and prioritization, resource allocation and budgeting, risk analysis, project management, policy design and strategic choice. Our mission is driven by industry innovation, multidisciplinary research and spin-off partnerships, and is currently focused on (although not limited to) health, energy, and environmental settings, always exploring cross-fertilization with the other areas of CEG-IST and international collaboration. Re-Place Eu Project
Re-Place is a Horizon Europe project that explores how mobility can help revitalise non-metropolitan, left-behind areas across Europe. By engaging communities through participatory research, the project investigates how patterns of spatial (im)mobility shape both origin and destination regions, and how they can be harnessed to foster. Launched in March 2023 and running for four years, Re-Place is led by the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning, University of Lisbon (IGOT-UL), in collaboration with seven partners from six European countries. Together, we aim to rethink development from the ground up.

Proaction Lab
The Proaction Lab - Perception and Recognition of Objects and Actions Laboratory - is a laboratory of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra working on cutting-edge research within Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology. The laboratory started in 2013 with our Director Jorge Almeida and about three researchers and grew gradually to what it is today. The Proaction Lab focuses on Cognitive Neuroscience approaches to unravel the processes associated with the perception and recognition of objects and actions, as well as how knowledge and information are stored and organized in the brain. We strive to promote a motivating international environment and high-quality training for our researchers. Our mission is to devote decisively to the understanding of high-level cognition, and our vision is to be a competitive laboratory at a global scale and an international reference in Psychology and Cognitive Neurosciences. Bonelab - Laboratory For Bone Metabolism And Regeneration
Bone metabolism and regeneration Bone Lab has its research activity mainly centered in bone metabolism and regeneration, reaching hand of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo methodologies. The major aim is a deeper understanding of bone tissue functionality in physiological and pathological conditions. Current scientific advances result from cross-departmental programs and established multidisciplinary collaborations with several national and international groups embracing basic and clinical sciences. The lab relies on many visiting researchers with a diverse scientific backgrounds, greatly contributing to produce new translational knowledge in this area. By being integrated into a multidisciplinary research network, our main role is to provide valid comments to the development of innovative pharmacological strategies and materials design in bone tissue regenerative applications, relying on an integrated view of molecular, cellular and tissue responses. Cytotoxicity and biocompatibility Bone Lab has also an established activity on cytotoxicity and biocompatibility evaluation of a diverse range of molecules, devices and materials seeking a wide range of pharmacological and biomedical applications. This would assist in early decision making and drug/product development and valorization. Bone Lab is hosted by the Faculty of Dental Medicine, U. Porto - FMDUP.
