Machine Learning Department At Cmu
We are the top research institution in the world for artificial intelligence and machine learning graduate programs. The Machine Learning Department (MLD) at Carnegie Mellon University launched the world's first Ph.D. program in Machine Learning in 2002, and this program continues to grow each year. We have students from 16 different countries with diverse backgrounds who have joined the program with either a bachelor's degree or a master's. Some of our students have experience in the industry and have made the decision to go back to school. A sampling of the backgrounds of our current students includes computer science, math sciences, engineering, automation, business economics, computational biology, finance and neuroscience. In 2015 we added a 5th year MS program and also a Statistics & Machine Learning undergraduate major. In August 2014 we opened our Master's degree in Machine Learning as a terminal degree. We also offer a secondary Masters's degree in Machine Learning, available only to current Carnegie Mellon Ph.D. students and CMU staff at the Pittsburgh campus. In January 2012 we launched an undergraduate minor in Machine Learning, available to Carnegie Mellon undergraduate students. Our faculty are world renowned in the field of Machine Learning and include (6) Fellows,(4) ACM Fellows (4) Fellows, and are recognized for their constant contributions to the fields of Machine Learning, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics and Computer Science. Missouri Institute Of Mental Health
The Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) was established as the Missouri Institute of Psychiatry (MIP) in October 1962 by George A. Ulett, M.D, on the grounds of St. Louis State Hospital as the research and teaching arm of the Missouri Division of Mental Diseases, now the Department of Mental Health (DMH). The University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) took over operation of MIP in 1965. The establishment of the institute quickly led to a drastic reduction in hospital overcrowding, a new psychiatric residency training program, full-time psychiatric care for patients, an end to racial segregation in city psychiatric facilities, and the first treatment program for alcoholism in St. Louis. Over the past decade, MIMH has informed new knowledge that supports the mental health and well being of persons with behavioral health problems through research and evaluation, policy development, technological innovation, and training. We currently generate approximately $9 million in annual funding through grants and contracts. Today, MIMH is poised to become one of the country’s finest health services research organizations dedicated to serving the state and the nation by improving the delivery of behavioral health services.
