The Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Österreichische Forschungsinstitut für Artificial Intelligence, or OFAI) is a non-profit contract research institution with over 35 years of experience in AI research and its transfer to industry. In solving problems for and with its partners, OFAI uses research methods from machine learning, deep learning, data mining, language and speech technology, human–computer and human–robot interaction, intelligent software agents, and other software technologies, with many of the underlying techniques developed in-house. Our services include consultancy, basic and applied research on a contractual basis, and working as a partner or prime contractor in scientific projects at the national and international levels. OFAI's theoretical knowledge and ample experience in a diversity of application areas has benefited a long roster of partners, including small and large businesses, governmental and non-governmental organizations, university labs and clinics, and private research institutes. Economica ist ein unabhängiges Wirtschaftsforschungsinstitut sui generis. Unser Motto lautet: Relevant Economics. Unsere Maxime sind zukunftsgestaltende Erkenntnisse – seit 2005. In der Rechtsform des gemeinnützigen Vereins gegründet, ist Economica inzwischen zum größten privaten Wirtschaftsforschungsinstitut in Österreich avanciert. Economica ist ausschließlich den Prinzipien akademischer Integrität und innovativer Lösungsorientierung verpflichtet. Sowohl bei der Wahl seiner Forschungsagenda als auch seiner Forschungspartner ist das Institut gänzlich frei. Im Mittelpunkt unserer Forschung steht die Analyse und Gestaltung des wirtschaftlichen Strukturwandels und der damit verbundenen ökonomischen Phänomene und sozialen Prozesse. Ecoaustria - Institut Für Wirtschaftsforschung

EcoAustria ist ein unabhängiges Wirtschaftsforschungsinstitut mit Sitz in Wien. Das Institut ist seit 2012 in der österreichischen Forschungslandschaft aktiv. Das Forschungsprogramm fokussiert insbesondere auf die ex‐ante und ex‐post Evaluation von wirtschafts‐ und sozialpolitischen Maßnahmen. EcoAustria leistet unabhängige und evidenzbasierte Wirtschaftsforschung und liefert mit hochqualitativen Analysen Grundlagen für Entscheidungen in Politik und Wirtschaft sowie für eine wissenschaftlich fundierte öffentliche Debatte. Mit diesem Ansatz ist es EcoAustria gelungen, sich auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene zu etablieren. EcoAustria ist als gemeinnütziger Verein organisiert und wird durch Mitgliedsbeiträge und Auftragsforschung finanziert. Mehr als 60 Prozent des Jahresbudgets generiert das Forschungsinstitut über kompetitiv vergebene Forschungsmittel, z.B. aus dem Jubiläumsfonds der Österreichischen Nationalbank, und über Auftragsforschung insbesondere im öffentlichen Interesse. Zu den Auftraggebern zählen unter anderem Bundesministerien, Landesregierungen sowie die Europäische Kommission. Knapp 40 Prozent des Jahresbudgets stellt die Basisfinanzierung dar, die sich aus Mitteln des Bundesministeriums für Finanzen in Form eines Rahmenvertrags, der Industriellenvereinigung und von Unternehmen zusammensetzt.

Quantum Physics Group, Universität Wien

The "Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information" group is internationally highly competitive in various quantum research areas. These cover experimental and theoretical research in foundations of quantum physics, quantum optics, quantum information, strongly correlated quantum systems as well as molecular quantum nanophysics. The experimental groups (Markus Arndt, Markus Aspelmeyer, Thomas Juffmann, Nikolai Kiesel, Philip Walther and Anton Zeilinger) run more than a dozen state-of-the-art laboratories on topics related to the foundations of quantum physics, quantum physics with photons, molecules, clusters, nanoparticles and nano-mechanical systems, as well as quantum information processing in computation, simulation, and communication, and optical precision measurements. The theoretical groups (Časlav Brukner, Borivoje Dakić and Beatrix Hiesmayr, Andreas Nunnenkamp, Norbert Schuch) focus their research on quantum foundations and quantum information theory, relativistic quantum information and metrology, as well as many-body quantum theory. The group participates in and coordinates a large number of national and international research projects. Group members have been awarded several excellence grants funded by the Austrian Science Fund FWF (START, Wittgenstein, SFB BeyondC) and the European Research Council ERC (Advanced Grants, Consolidator Grants, Starting Grants). The group’s scientific standing attracts excellent national and international bachelor, master and PhD students who contribute significantly to the group’s high research output as can be seen from the many publications in high-quality and high-visibility journals indexed in scientific databases, including top-rated ones such as Nature, Science or Physical Review Letters. The close network with the international research community is strengthened by international guest scientists who give lecture courses and presentations for the members of the group on a regular basis.
