Research suffers from inefficiency, poor generalizability, and limited translational impact due to high costs, time-consuming processes, small sample sizes, and challenges in participant recruitment and reach. Research Online is a web-based platform that leverages AI, bioinstrumentation, optics, pupil dynamics, and the microvasculature to enable large-scale online physiological experiments with hundreds of participants/hour, at 1/10th the cost. The data collected contribute to building predictive models for both terrestrial and space flight applications.

Sleep, Cognition, And Neuroimaging Lab

The Sleep, Cognition and Neuroimaging Laboratory (SCNLab) has been founded in 2013 by Dr. Thanh Dang-Vu. Under his leadership, the SCNLab investigates the brain mechanisms of sleep and sleep disorders, and the role of sleep in cognitive health, using state of the art multimodal neuroimaging techniques. The SCNLab is based in Montreal (Canada), and includes two research sites: Concordia University’s PERFORM Center, and the Centre de Recherche de l’Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie de Montréal (CRIUGM).

Starlab

Our goal is to make space more accessible for everyone by creating opportunities for new technologies to be tested and implemented at a lower cost compared to traditional methods. We are dedicated to creating an environment where students will be exposed to industry wisdom and academic knowledge, a fertile ground where students can develop professionally. The STAR Lab is currently developing a CubeSat, known as Iris, as part of the Canadian CubeSat Project (CCP). The CCP is an initiative by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to provide fifteen post-secondary Canadian institutions with guidance and support in developing their own CubeSat missions. At the end of the project, the CSA provides a mission launch for each CubeSat mission, providing students with valuable experience in all aspects of a space project. The Iris project is a collaboration between the STAR Lab, the University of Winnipeg C-TAPE Lab, York University, and the Interlake School Division. We are developing a CubeSat to expose contain geological samples with known material composition to record and categorize the effects of space weathering. The Iris CubeSat will expose the geological samples to the space environment in a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and direct solar radiation for a maximum mission duration of two years.

The Perk Lab

The Perk Lab is a cutting-edge Laboratory for Percutaneous Surgery. Our lab is dedicated to advancing the field of medical interventions involving the placement of surgical instruments, including needle-based aspirations, injections, ablation therapies, and more. Our multidisciplinary environment fosters collaboration across computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and clinical sciences. World Community Grid

World Community Grid enables anyone with a computer, smartphone or tablet to donate their unused computing power to advance cutting-edge scientific research on topics related to health, poverty and sustainability. Through the contributions of volunteers all over the globe, World Community Grid has supported 31 research projects to date, including searches for more effective treatments for cancer, HIV/AIDS and under-researched tropical diseases. Other projects are looking for low-cost water filtration systems and new materials for capturing solar energy efficiently. In 2021, IBM transferred the World Community Grid assets to Krembil Research Institute, part of the University Health Network (UHN). While sharing the goals and principles of WCG, Krembil Research Institute aims to expand the mission of citizen science, youth outreach and integrative computational biology. UHN has Canada’s largest hospital-based research program, comprising four major teaching hospitals (Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and The Michener Institute of Education). In total, UHN devotes C$450 million a year to research and trains more than 3,200 undergraduate, graduate and medical students at its member hospitals and institutes in association with the University of Toronto.
