The Idiap Research Institute is a research institute of national importance established in 1991 by the City of Martigny, the State of Valais, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, the University of Geneva, and Swisscom with funding from the Dalle Molle Foundation. Inspired by Angelo Dalle Molle's innovative approach, we aim to improve quality of life through scientific advances in artificial intelligence. Our tagline reads,"AI for Society." Science, research, and education in the Grisons The Academia Raetica, based in Davos, is the association for the promotion of science, research and education in the canton of Grisons and its neighboring regions. Its members include over twenty research institutes, universities and clinics. It was founded in 2006 with the purpose of promoting young scientists, connecting its members and representing their interests in politics and in public. A link between science, business, politics, and the public: On the basis of a mandate from the canton of Grisons, the Academia Raetica advances the education and training, work and development of scientists through transferable skills courses and networking opportunities. The conference "Graubünden forscht" offers young researchers a platform to present and reflect on their work. In addition, scientists from different disciplines meet at the conference "Graubünden forscht" to discuss mutual scientific questions regarding the Alpine region in a multidisciplinary context. At the same time, the conference gives the public and politicians an impression of the broad range of research activities in Graubünden. The Academia Raetica connects and supports its members in cooperation projects with each other as well as with research institutions outside the canton. The Competence Center of Biocatalysis (CCBIO) was founded in January 2016 and is led by Dr. Rebecca Buller, head of the Centre for Biocatalysis and Process Technology at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) The CCBIO at the ZHAW promotes biocatalysis as a complementary method to classic organic synthesis and aims to help bridge the gap between academic laboratories and the production plant. By connecting relevant research competencies CCBIO strives to develop a comprehensive biocatalytic toolbox consisting of enzyme libraries and methods, which will facilitate the development of biocatalytic and biosynthetic processes for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
