Durability Of Engineering Materials Lab At Eth Zurich

We are primarily concerned with corrosion of metals in various porous media and environments. We are interested in the durability of engineered materials and structures in civil engineering and infrastructures in the energy sector, where our research is focused on addressing real-world engineering challenges by fundamental science methods. We use experimental and computational methods covering materials science, electrochemistry, porous media and reactive mass transport, civil engineering, etc. We are committed to provide mechanistic insight into corrosion mechanisms, develop measuring methods and sensors for monitoring purposes, and corrosion mitigation strategies. Dyana

Dyana ("Dynamic Animatronic") is a student project of the Robotic Systems Lab (RSL) at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. The vision is to build a lynx-sized four-legged (quadruped) robot which conveys a life-like appearance through dynamic movements and an overall realistic look. We are working at the interface of animation of robotics in order to transfer an artistic input (CGI) into the physical, real world. This should contribute to alleviating the alienation from most robots prevalent in industry. Furthermore, the project explores new workflows to implement natural movement patterns and gaits for locomotion.

Central Bank Research Association Cebra

The Central Bank Research Association (CEBRA) is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to encourage applied and theoretical research on topics relevant to central banks, financial regulators, international financial institutions and fiscal authorities, as well as to connect the research staff of these institutions with academia. CEBRA operates in Switzerland as an association (“Verein”). It has been granted the status of Tax Exempt Association by the Canton of Basel City. CEBRA’s activities include the organization of an annual meeting at a leading university, the organization of several research programs on topics of high policy interest, the organization of academic sessions at the annual meetings of other associations in economics and finance, and the hosting of an information service collecting professional announcements that are of specific interest to the members of CEBRA. CEBRA is funded by sponsorship and membership contributions. Institutional membership is open to central banks, financial regulators, international financial institutions and other government organizations. CEBRA does not accept financial contributions from for-profit organizations. The 2022 Annual Meeting of the Central Bank Research Association is currently planned to take place in person on 29-31 August 2022, at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Ciutadella Campus, Barcelona, Spain. Protein Crystallization Center Uzh

The Protein Crystallization Center – PCC@UZH – supports the structural biology research community by setting up and monitor high-throughput protein crystallization experiments at the nano-liter scale. PCC@UZH offers as a service a wide range of crystallization techniques for soluble and membrane proteins. The crystallization service is open to all academic research groups and to private industry. Proteins are the largest group of non-aqueous components in living cells. Almost every chemical reaction in a living cell requires a specific enzyme; this class of protein is also the most diverse. Knowing the 3-D structure of enzymes is vital to understand cellular processes. From the techniques used for the structure determination of macromolecules X-ray crystallography is the most productive method to date. Crystals of a protein are prerequisite for structure determination by X-ray crystallography. Since the crystallization of bio molecules is a poorly understood process, high-throughput crystallization screening methods have to be used to find a successful condition for a new protein. Using vapor diffusion as the most common crystallization technique a combination of condition variables has to be determined for each protein. Condition variables are e.g. the protein concentration, the temperature, pH, and the concentration of a wide range of precipitation agents in combination with various salts. High throughput screening in combination with miniaturizing the crystallization experiment to 100nl is a practical solution for finding a suitable crystallization condition out of a large number of tests by using only a small amount of purified protein.
