Kazakh Research Institute Of Potato And Vegetable Growing Kazripvg

Kazakh Research Institute of Potato and Vegetable Growing (KazRIPVG) was established in 1946 on the basis of the Republican Experimental Station of Potato and Vegetable Farming. Mission - Scientific support for sustainable development of potato and vegetable production of the Republic through the creation, maintenance and release of competitive varieties and innovative technologies. Specialization and the main activities of the Institute: 1) the formation and conservation of gene pool of potato, vegetable and melon crops, identifying donors with valuable traits; 2) breeding of highly productive varieties of potato, vegetable and melon crops resistant to environmental stress factors and diseases, and suitable for storage and processing; 3) primary seed production of vegetables and melon crops, production of original and elite seed potato via biotechnology; 4) the development of resource-saving technologies of cultivation of potato and vegetables, contributing to the preservation of soil fertility and growing of environmentally friendly products; 5) studies on storage and processing of potato and vegetables. KazRIPVG has a very rich, diverse and unique gene pool of melons and potatoes. At the 1st quarter of 2016 the collection of the gene pool of melons includes samples of 157 kinds of vegetables from 100 countries. At the same time, the potato gene pool consists of 2100 samples of world collection from 40 countries. Selection and seed research at the Kazakh Research Institute of Potato and Vegetable is held on 25 types of crops: potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic, tomato (open and protected ground), cabbage, sweet pepper, hot pepper, eggplant, cucumber (open and protected ground), pumpkin, zucchini, dining carrots, beetrootdill, radishes, green beans and vegetable salad, watermelon and cantaloupe.

Institute Of Smart Systems And Artificial Intelligence - Nazarbayev University

Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) was founded in September 2019 to serve as the driver of research and innovation in the digital sphere of Kazakhstan with the focus on areas of AI research. The Institute is directed by Professor Huseyin Atakan Varol, who obtained his PhD degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, USA. Located at the Nazarbayev University in Astana city, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ISSAI aims to develop and conduct interdisciplinary research on machine intelligence for solving real-word problems of industry and society. ISSAI will serve as a model for sustainable high-impact research in Kazakhstan, aligning the research initiatives with national development priorities, and emphasizing the development of human capital amongst the growing youth demographic of the country. ISSAI aims to help Kazakhstan serve as the regional hub for digital and data-centric international companies and have specific development targets such increased GDP created by AI companies by 2029, increased workforce in AI and IT-related industries by 2029, E-government run optimally by AI in 2023, and 90% of medical diagnostics augmented by AI by 2023. The vision of the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) of the Nazarbayev University is to make Kazakhstan a research and innovation powerhouse in artificial intelligence with a vibrant AI-based economy and skilled workforce. ISSAI aims to promote research and results in the area of smart systems and artificial intelligence, as well as advise Kazakhstan’s government and support its vision of the AI ecosystem in the country.
