It hosts well-furnished tuberculosis (TB) research laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, and its goal is to continue evolving as a center of excellence in research. Zankli Research Laboratory was renamed Zankli Research Centre in Bingham University reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor under the pioneering directorship of Prof Lovett Lawson. The Centre continues to enjoy support from IHVN and other partners through the NTBLCP funded by Global Fund. The center has trained staff on the capacity to conduct microscopy using LED FM, solid and liquid culture, and Molecular detection of TB. It is the first facility to have a functional MGIT BACTEC 960 an automated machine for the culture of TB in the country. It was also the first to use the GeneXpert platform for the molecular diagnosis of TB. It served as a research laboratory for Masters and Ph.D. students both locally and internationally. The center's activities and international collaboration had led to the publishing of several peer-reviewed papers and award of research grants. On this premise, a group of patriotic African scholars from the science, engineering and linguistic field, gathered at the University of Uyo in February 21st 2014 and agreed to form a research group that will excavate the scientific wisdom of African ancestors and build on it to develop a module for studying sciences with the indigenous languages across Africa. The Research foundation was officially inaugurated at the institution’s headquarters in Abak L.G.A, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. On the 29th of March 2018, by Professor Eno-Abasi Urua of the University of Uyo, and dedicated to GOD by Apostle Dr. John Okoriko of Solid Rock Kingdom.
