Lepabe - Laboratory For Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology And Energy

LEPABE is a research unit of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. It has been evaluated as “Excellent” in consecutive external evaluations appointed by FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia). It counts with approximately 180 researchers, among which about 90 have doctoral degrees. LEPABE’s research is based on multidisciplinary expertise, involving such diverse topics as analytical chemistry, photochemistry, microbiology or polymer science. This allows for a unique articulation of scientific skills from different areas, not only to achieve progress in scientific knowledge, but also to effectively deliver innovative technologies to society. This is evidenced by the significant number of patents and university–industry collaborations for effective technology transfer.

3b S Research Group

The 3B’s Research Group (Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics) was established in 1998 at the University of Minho and supports a multidisciplinary and highly skilled team which works at the interface of biotechnology, biology, biomedical engineering and materials science. Major research areas at our group include, among others, new materials development, drug delivery, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, nanomedicine, and stem cell isolation and differentiation. The group belongs to the Associate Laboratory IBB – Institute for Biotechnology and Bioengineering that has branches in several locations in Portugal. It also leads the European Institute of Excellence on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine that has branches in 22 locations in 13 different countries.

Icvs - Life And Health Sciences Research Institute

The Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) was created in 2003 and aims at improving human health through outstanding life-science research, cutting-edge medical innovation and delivery of specialized services. The ICVS is a R&D Unit incorporated in the School of Health Sciences (ECS)- University of Minho, strategically located in the Northern region of Portugal within a fast growing Cluster of Biomedical Science, Technology and Healthcare institutions, being organized around three interdisciplinary Research Domains: Microbiology and Infection, Neurosciences and Surgical Sciences. The strategy for the ICVS development has been centred in: i) establishing a research unit within an innovative Medical School guided by international standards of excellence; ii) fostering a strategic partnership with the affiliated Health Care Institutions and; establishing a consortium with the research group 3B’s - Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics - a leading research group in Health Technology. In the framework of the national R&D network, the ICVS has been consecutively evaluated by international panels with the maximum rank of “Excellent” and benefits from the guidance of a panel of renowned international scientific advisors. More than 250 researchers with complementary academic backgrounds are presently working at the ICVS. The biomedical, translational and clinical research results in more than 100 publications/year in international top-level scientific journals. Many of the ICVS researchers, including young scientists and MDs, have been honoured with awards for their scientific achievements. The ICVS/3B’s - Associate Laboratory results from a strategic partnership consolidated over the years with the 3B’s Group – Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics.

Bsafe Lab Law Enforcement, Justice And Public Safety Research And Technology Transfer Laboratory

Founded as a result of the collaboration between QUALIFY JUST (IPS_Innovative Prison Systems) and UBI – Universidade da Beira Interior, the BSAFE LAB is an open interdisciplinary research and technology transfer laboratory aiming to foster and develop new research and technology transfer in the fields of law enforcement, justice and public safety in scientific areas ranging from arts & humanities, including law, history and philosophy, biological & medical sciences, physical sciences & engineering, social & behavioural sciences & education. Its main objectives consist of fostering the advancement of knowledge and the reinforcement of SME competitiveness in the fields of law enforcement, justice and public safety through: • the development of new research projects (involving public organisations, private sector and government agencies); • the technical supervision of master’s and PhD thesis; • the implementation of innovation demonstration actions (technology transfer pilots and experimentation playgrounds) involving SME’s and public sector agencies; • the establishment of partnerships with research and government institutions worldwide; • providing technical assistance to third parties (companies and government agencies).

ISAMB is a research center of the Lisbon School of Medicine (FMUL) devoted to Environmental Health (EH) funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT)(Ref. UIDB/04295/2020 e UIDP/04295/2020). ISAMB is organized into five Research Groups (Supportive Environments for Public Health and Health Promotion; Supportive Environments for Individuals’ Lifespan Development; Environment and Non-Communicable Diseases; Environment and Infectious Diseases; Ecogenetics and Human Health), and three Labs (Environmental Health Behaviour Lab; EnviHealthMicro Lab; Evolution & Reproduction Lab) each encompassing convergent R&D lines that comprise the specialization areas, skills and competences of more than 150 members. ISAMB's organization takes advantage from the privileged inclusion in FMUL and from the association with the country's largest university hospital (Hospital de Santa Maria). This raises the opportunity of putting together the strengths in public health, different clinical areas and gene-environment interactions. Labiomep Laboratório De Biomecânica Do Porto

Porto Biomechanics Laboratory (LABIOMEP – Laboratório de Biomecânica do Porto) is an interface structure of different faculties of the Porto University, being devoted to assess, research and teaching biomechanics. 2011 is the year of birth of LABIOMEP, which was accomplished with founding of the European Community, the Portuguese Government, and the University of Porto. LABIOMEP will be initially installed at the Faculty of Sport facilities, once it is a central building of the Asprela pole of the University of Porto. It is expected that the installation process may be finished on time to ISBS2011. Anyway, the organization of this event by the University of Porto, was driven by the celebration of both its 100th anniversary, and the birth of LABIOMEP. Indeed, the ISBS2011 Symposium is the first milestone accomplished by LABIOMEP in the domain of the organization of international scientific events.

Quantum Communications Group Instituto De Telecomunicações - Aveiro

Our group joins expertise in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, and mathematics. Based on these expertises, we have been implementing quantum cryptography solutions for quantum key distribution, quantum random number generation and quantum secure multiparty computation. One of the main goals of the Group is to implement quantum-enabled cryptographic protocols to make secure multiparty computation services broadly available. O ICTE posiciona-se como uma entidade que desenvolve atividades de I&D e presta serviços especializados na área da geofísica. A investigação geofísica é um método não-invasivo que estuda e mapeia o subsolo através das variações das suas propriedades físicas. As principais aplicações da geofísica de prospecção estão relacionadas com a prospecção mineral, águas subterrâneas (exploração e mapeamento de contaminação), petróleo, monitorização ambiental e geológico, arqueologia. Ao longo da sua história, tem desenvolvido inúmeros projetos nas suas áreas de atuação. Nos últimos anos tem incrementado a cooperação com o setor privado, o que lhe tem permitido estar presente nos diversos mercados lusófonos como o angolano, o cabo-verdiano e o brasileiro e contar como clientes empresas multinacionais de referência (Martifer, Petrogal, EDP, Sojitz Beralt, Colt Resources). Dotado de um conjunto de investigadores de referência internacional e técnicos especializados, o ICTE está empenhado em fornecer um conjunto de serviços especializados que incluem a planificação de projectos, aquisição de dados, análise de dados e execução de relatórios na área da geofísica. O ICTE estabelece objectivos claros a fim de desenvolver soluções práticas ao menor custo. Associação Para O Desenvolvimento Da Aerodinâmica Industrial Adai

The Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI) is a private, non-profit institution, with public utility status, created in 1990 by researchers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Coimbra (DEM-UC), promoting research, development, demonstration, training, specialized consultancy and service provision activities. Since 2006, ADAI has been one of the four managing institutions of LAETA, the Associated Laboratory of Energy, Transports and Aeronautics (LA nº 50022), awarded 'Excellent' by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT). ADAI hosted 397 students (MSc and PhD) and over 100 researchers. It offers a wide range of opportunities for researchers to explore knowledge, innovation, and technology transfer through two main areas of action: a) Energy, Environment and Comfort, and b) Forest Fires and Detonics). ADAI is structured into four research centers, working in the areas of Energy and Detonics (CED); Forest Fires (CEIF), Industrial Ecology (CIE), and Sustainability of the Built Environment (CSBE). ADAI manages three laboratory buildings: Industrial Aerodynamics Lab (LAI, 1986), located close to Polo II of the UC; Forest Fire Studies Lab (LEIF, 1995), located at Lousã airfield; and Energy and Detonics Lab (LEDAP), located in Condeixa-a-Nova. In addition to these laboratories, ADAI’s activities are also carried out at the facilities of DEM-UC and the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, where a branch of ADAI was created in 2014.

Laboratório Associado Lsre-Lcm

LSRE-LCM is a partnership between LSRE - Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering and LCM - Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials. This partnership obtained the status of Associate Laboratory in December 2004, renewed in January 2011 for a period of 10 years. The main location of LSRE-LCM is the Department of Chemical Engineering at FEUP, Faculty of Engineering - University of Porto, and two external poles: the IPB Pole at Polytechnic Institute of Bragança started in 1997 and the IPL Pole at Polytechnic Institute of Leiria started in 2011. Currently, human resources account for 62 integrated members and a total of 137 researchers including PhD students. LSRE-LCM is organized in 4 research groups: Cyclic Adsorption/Reaction Processes; Product Engineering; Thermodynamics & Environment; Catalysis and Carbon Materials. The mission of LSRE-LCM is to contribute for the development of scientific and technological know-how in the Chemical Engineering areas of Separation and Reaction Processes, Product Engineering, Catalysis and Carbon Materials, Thermodynamics and Environmental Engineering. A wide range of know-how levels is covered by LSRE-LCM activities, from fundamental research to the development of industrial products and processes. Training of high-competence researchers and technicians through post-graduate and post-doctoral programmes is a major part of the mission of LSRE-LCM. From 2008 to 2013, researchers at LSRE-LCM published 796 articles in SCI journals and Book Chapters, and 4 books, registered 8 patents, supervised 52 PhD theses. Promoted and participated in the creation of an official certification process for polyclonal grapevine propagation material in Portugal, a world-first.
