Institute Of Physics Belgrade
The Institute of Physics Belgrade, a National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, is a first-class research institution dedicated to the study of physics and related disciplines. The research conducted here into the fundamental mechanisms of nature is of immense value to the scientific, educational, cultural, and the overall socioeconomic development of Serbia. Founded in 1961, the Institute of Physics was a product of a surge in physics research in postwar Yugoslavia. The initiative for its founding came from Aleksandar Milojević, a renowned university professor, based on the need, at the time increasingly evident, to unify all non-nuclear physics research endeavors into a single institution. The Institute of Physics was born. Committed to continuous reexamination, and to kinship, governed by an openness to new ideas and personal betterment, it went through perilous times, but also years of growth and moments of startling discovery. By developing a network of allies and collaborators, the Institute of Physics has launched, strengthened and supported numerous laudable initiatives in Serbia and the wider region. The Institute of Physics fosters close ties with related institutions across Europe and the rest of the world. Particularly notable is the cooperation with the European Organization for Nuclear Research – CERN. Moreover, the Institute’s strategic partners include Italy’s National Institute for Nuclear Research (INFN) and DESY, the largest scientific facility in Germany. Owing to its unique spirit, state-of-the-art research and fruitful innovations, the Institute of Physics is recognized today in Serbia as a leading national research institution, in the region as a center of excellence, and in Europe and globally as a trustworthy partner and a relevant research center.

Petnica Science Center
Petnica Science Center is the biggest and, probably, the oldest independent nonprofit organization for extracurricular science education in SE Europe. Since 1982, Petnica has organized more than 3,500 programs (seminars, workshops, research camps…) for nearly students and science teachers in 15 disciplines of science, technology and humanities. Majority of programs are designed for secondary-school students although there are many programs for primary-school pupils, university students and science teachers. Main conception of Petnica activities is the model called Learning through Reserach (similar to Inquiry Based Science Education in regular schools). Attendants of regular Petnica programs are coming from all countries of former Yugoslavia and all these courses are being realized in Serbian language. However, Petnica occasionally organizes programs (like PI) in English for international participants.

Projekat je podržan od strane Gete Instituta u Beogradu- Škogled is a collective social engagement with the idea of building social capacity, directed from citizens towards society. The team gathers experts from fields of psychology, sociology, pedagogy, andragogy, philology, economics, law, arts, design, architecture, and urban studies. Through transdisciplinary work, the team seeks to discover and creatively interpret urban and educational practices, as well as establish new relations between them which have the potential to improve the quality of urban life. Together with two collectives - School of Urban Practices from Belgrade and Political Space Matters from Berlin - we are developing project Škograd: an urban-educational experiment which aims to initiate a long-term process of community activities and dialogue in Ledine, one of Belgrade’s informal suburban settlements. The elementary school in Ledine is the only public space in the neighborhood where neighbors regularly gather, but growing segregation and decreasing number of students threaten to bring the school to closure. Together with local children, the school staff, and neighbors, we are working on reversing this trend and transforming the school into a creative and inviting space for the entire neighborhood. United in this process, we are creating the conditions for a long-term collective effort to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. The project is supported by the Goethe Institute in Belgrade.
