The Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and effective use of novel biomedical interventions addressing substantial global health concerns, for which investment incentives are limited. Boston Children's Hospital Chip
The Boston Children's Hospital Computational Health Informatics Program (CHIP), founded in 1994, is a multidisciplinary applied research and education program. Our faculty advance the science of biomedical informatics for molecular characterization of the patient, gene discovery, medical decision making, diagnosis, therapeutic selection, care redesign, public health management, population health, and re-imagined clinical trials. The Program’s innovations have transformed the landscape of big data in health care, the use of AI in clinical decision making, and the IT strategies of commercial enterprises. CHIP discoveries and inventions have been widely adopted by technology companies such as: Apple, Microsoft, Google and Amazon. Leading projects include the SMART on FHIR “app store for health”, the cTAKES pipeline for computerized “reading” of clinical text, the HealthMap global surveillance system, and the federated data sharing Genomic Information Commons. CHIP software is reading millions of doctors’ notes across sites of care and surfacing key insights about adverse medication effects. CHIP research has strongly influenced public policy from vaccine recommendations to health IT provisions in the 21st Century Cures Act to paradigm shifts in data provisioning by CMS. CHIP’s biosurveillance computational platforms have found the earliest signals of Ebola outbreaks. On the basis of these advances, Health 2.0 voted Boston Children's Hospital the 10 Year Global Retrospective Top Influencer among all health care organizations.

From the time of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation’s formation in 2007, our Board of Directors has been very clear about its "Hope for Hearts" purpose: 1) To fund, support and conduct research that potentially could be a “game changer” in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. This is the foundation’s reason for being and the source of the passion of our physician researchers whose common goal is to make a difference and improve the prognosis and quality of life of patients everywhere. From the inception of the Foundation, it has been very important to us to strive for a significant proportion of our funding to come from independent sources (particularly individual donations) rather than from pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers. The compelling reason for this is that it gives us the freedom to pursue research avenues without concern that they be attractive or lucrative to industry, thereby enabling us to explore the widest variety of clinical options. 2) To educate our patients and contributors about: The Foundation’s pursuit of new clinical solutions What is happening in cardiovascular research and technology What they can do to protect and improve their own cardiovascular health. 3) To raise awareness of the latest techniques and therapies in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease both among our colleagues in the medical community and the general public. The Foundation is a certified non-profit charitable organization and was founded as the non-profit research arm of the Cardiovascular Medical Group of Southern California, a specialty cardiovascular practice that has been in practice for nearly 50 years. We are Cavalier Autonomous Racing — The University of Virginia’s premier autonomous racing team, and the first American team to win the Indy Autonomous Challenge. Born out of Prof. Madhur Behl’s research group at UVA, our team pushes the limits of perception, planning, and control algorithms by testing them under extreme conditions—at 180+ mph. Autonomous racing is not just a competition; it’s a proving ground for the future of robotics and intelligent machines. Our car is equipped with state-of-the-art sensors (LiDAR, radar, cameras, GNSS, IMU), compute platforms, and over lines of custom C++ code. The software stack is developed entirely in-house by our student team, with contributions from undergraduates and graduate students across CS, MAE, ECE, and beyond. We’ve raced at legendary venues like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the NASA Space Shuttle Landing Facility. Cavalier Autonomous Racing is more than just a race team—it’s an R&D lab on wheels. Every lap we complete feeds back into research on physical AI, high-speed robotics, and safe autonomous systems. Center For Advancement Of Informal Science Education
The Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE) works in cooperation with the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Advancing Informal Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Learning (AISL) Program to build and advance the informal STEM education field by providing infrastructure, resources and connectivity for educators, researchers, evaluators, and other interested stakeholders. Established in 2007, CAISE operates as a network of core staff at the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) in Washington, D.C. and co-principal investigators and other collaborators at academic institutions and informal STEM education (ISE) organizations across the U.S. CAISE seeks to characterize, highlight and connect quality, evidence-based informal STEM learning work supported by a diversity of federal, local and private funders by providing access to over (and growing) resources that include project descriptions, research literature, evaluation reports and other documentation on the InformalScience.org website. CAISE also convenes inquiry groups, workshops and principal investigator meetings designed to facilitate discussion and identify the needs and opportunities for informal STEM learning practitioners working in media (TV, radio, film, social), science centers and museums, zoos and aquariums, parks, botanical gardens and nature centers, events and festivals, libraries, making and tinkering spaces, cyberlearning and gaming,and youth, community, and out-of-school time programs. As of September 2016, CAISE embarked on a new initiative to explore synergy with the fields of science communication and science public engagement.
