The INUTI foundation runs a daily activity concentrated on Art work for people with intellectual disabilities. We have two studios and a gallery all situated downtown Stockholm where about 40 people work. Fifteen of these are qualified supervisors with artistic, pedagogic and psychological experience. Our work is built upon the law - LSS. A special law here in Sweden giving people with intellectual disabilities the right to support and a fulfilling daily activity of their own choice. We look upon art as a means of communication and try to guide and help each individual to develop their personal style and proficiency, giving them means to express themselves in different ways. Namnet Namnet Galleri Svarta Gran kommer från det faktum att en från galleriet kan blicka upp mot Tjärnaberget och vid vissa tidpunkter se silhuetter av vackra granar. In 1993 Kristina Bleckberg and Juha Sulila launched Ugallery which at this time was located at Strandvägen 13 in Stockholm. To start with our goal was to work with only present Swedish and Finish artists within painting and sculpture. In we moved to our present premises that are more and well adapted for gallery business, in Stockholm and on web. Our profile has changed since to be more international and we participate in different art fairs, first of all in Sweden, USA and Germany. We work on a traditional basis with regular art exhibitions during the entire year, with exception during June and August.

Upcycling is about transformation. A kind of creative, value-increasing reuse where something old becomes something new and improved. All my work is made out of old and unwanted canvases purchased at second hand stores. A creative reuse where the end product becomes something entirely new of higher quality and value. My dedication to abstract, non-figurative art lies in the fact that it does not portray an absolute reality or truth. The artist has an unlimited opportunity to influence the observer with the choice of color and shape, technology and structure. At the same time the viewer is completely free to decide for themself what it portrays. It calls for imagination, innovation and creativity. The idea that nothing becomes something if you look closely creates boundless possibilities. Thisorthat is about each painting carrying its own unique story. Behind the top layer of painting lies a past, a different before. A before that somehow along the way lost its value and purpose. So this becomes that. It’s an exciting mission and an artistic privilege to create and provide a new purpose. As a clue, the title of my works usually reveals something about its past.
