In 1997, we grabbed the opportunity to establish Pasaraya OTK (OTK). This supermarket quickly became the go-to place for fresh produce and grocery items. In 2004, with opportunity hitting us at the right time, Village Grocer (VG) was born in Bangsar Village with its premium produce selection. It continues to serve the residents of Bangsar and Kuala Lumpur with its large array of fresh produce and finest offering, catering to the discerning consumers. In April 2017, we marked a very special moment in our journey as the company fully acquired Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G.), another premium supermarket. B.I.G, started in 2011, brings an exciting experience for our shoppers with a complete eat, drink and shop adventure through our impressive spread of specialised sections with themes like Barn Butchery, Bay Seafood, B. Organics and Malaya Kitchen. In the past, majority of the pigs bred in Malaysia were full of harmful chemicals. Pigs were given artificial growth hormones and antibiotics to increase their growth rate. This results in lower breeding time for pigs hence, lower cost for farmers to increase their profit. With all these harmful substances in the pork, people were worried for their children and loved ones. Parents were scared their children's growth would be stunted because of this. Moreover, many traditional farms do not properly dispose of their agricultural waste resulting in air pollution & soil contamination. Residues generated from these pollutions will then be channeled into a water source thereby polluting the water and harming aquatic animals. Hence, Berkcious was established in 2015 in Ipoh. Our aim was simple 1) To produce natural & great meat 2) To never use antibiotics, growth hormones, beta-agonist, or any chemicals on our pigs 3) To use sustainable farming methods to protect the environment
