Her extensive performing and transcribing/arranging history underpins her work and interest in writing for bands particularly. Inspired by traditional and emerging band repertoire, jazz, musicals, film, and a wide array of orchestral and chamber music, Kara aims to write narrative-filled, melodic music that is engaging and comfortably familiar but unmistakably her. Kara’s compositions and arrangements have been performed in Australia and overseas, and she has received formal recognition for her entries in composition and arranging competitions, acceptance as a member of the Music Arranger’s Guild of Australia and works listed as band competition test pieces.
