Centre For National Security And Defense Research - Bulgarian Academy Of Science
In December a Framework Agreement was signed between BAS and the Ministry of Defence, which became an important incentive for intensifying and strengthening cooperation in the field of research and technology with applications for national security and defence. As a result of the agreement, for the first time in 10 years, scientists and specialists from BAS are involved in various projects and scientific events (seminars, symposia) in the field of research and technology for defence needs. In the period more than 30 projects were developed in various fields (informatics, sensors and systems, energy sources, etc.). The first joint international projects (under a contract between the Ministries of Defence of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Republic of Bulgaria) have also been carried out, with institutes from BAS and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Research (TNO-Defence) as the main contractors. As a result of the Framework Contract and the implemented projects, the Centre for National Security and Defence Studies (CNSDS) was established as an independent academic specialised unit by a decision of the General Assembly of BAS on 24 June 2002. The aim is to preserve and develop the Bulgarian scientific and technical potential to master new and create its own cutting-edge technologies in the field of national security.
