Unido Armenia Project On Light Industry Modernization

UNIDO Armenia Project on Light Industry Modernization aims at “Improving competitiveness of export-oriented light industries in Armenia through modernization and market access” Donor of the Project: Government of the Russian Federation Implementing Agency: United Nations Industrial Development Organization Partners: Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of RA and Business Armenia Pilot phase of the UNIDO Project was launched in 2014, which brought together garment producing Armenian enterprises to design and produce fashionable and quality modern clothes under a joint "5900BC" logo. Besides UNIDO facilitated the establishment of the "Space59" light industry educational and service center in Yerevan in collaboration with the Istituto di Moda Burgo in Milan, Italy. The success of the first phase of the project paved the way for the expansion of project activities and involvement of the leather and footwear sector into the project. So within the second phase, 25 garment and footwear producing companies are united under the umbrella of 5900BC. UNIDO seeks to revive industrial linkages of the Armenian shoe and garment producers within the regional value chains (especially within the EAEU) by: a) Enhancing productivity and competitiveness of the garment and footwear production sectors. b) Promoting business networking and institutional partnerships between local shoe and garment producers, developers (design, modelling) and exporters. c) Presenting local footwear and garment producers at international footwear and garment specialized exhibitions and business platforms. d) Establishing the Light Industry Training and Service Center The project facilitated capacity building activities, focusing on a wide range of technical and business issues, including.
