MISSION: Ten Thousand Things awakens the creative spirit of audiences and artists by bringing essential and exceptional theater to people from all backgrounds and life experiences. VISION: To ignite empathy and revolutionize belonging through the power of compelling and inspiring theater. VALUES: 1) Theater is better when everyone is in the audience. Performing for audiences of all life experiences and backgrounds expands imagination and challenges us to create work that is honest, relevant and representative. 2) Artistic excellence drives our work. We combine rigor, skilled artists and bold, universal stories to create the best work possible. 3) Artists are our greatest asset. We value the tremendous talent and commitment of our artists and place them at the center of the work. Everyone belongs. We actively work to eliminate barriers to participation and cultivate equitable practices. Whether an audience member, artist, staff, or volunteer, each person’s unique perspective is necessary to the work. We choose joy. Challenging work is best met by an environment that allows for laughter, safety, play and creativity. OUR PERFORMANCE MODEL: We perform in the round, with the lights on and minimal sets and live music. The result is a performance that engages the imagination of our audiences. Through this dynamic exchange, artists and audience breathe new life into theater together, reminding us that theater is essential to all of our lives. Our free performances are at shelters for the unhoused, correctional facilities, low-income senior centers, after-school programs, women's shelters, and locations in greater/rural Minnesota. Inheritance Theater Project
Inheritance Theater Project (ITP) builds relationships across religious, racial, and generational divides through collaborative playmaking. The company is led by a team of national artists who partner with local artists, educators, and clergy to engage in a process that uses theater and shared cultural touchstones to bridge divides and build community. The process culminates in an original piece of theater by and for the residents of that city, but it is the act of creating this work that builds strong, more interconnected communities. Since 2015, ITP has employed 200+ artists to engage people in 15 cities across the U.S. ITP has worked in communities where issues like refugee resettlement (Omaha), housing discrimination (Norfolk), and impending climate disasters (Palm Beach) have led to neighbors operating in silos and, at times, conflict. By inviting people to co-create art about these challenging topics, ITP increases empathy and creates new durable connections that continue to serve the community for years to come.
