Brac Institute Of Governance And Development Bigd , Brac University
The BIGD, BRAC University is a centre of research and academic excellence. As a post graduate resource centre, BIGD is devoted to specialised research on a range of governance and development concerns, as well as the nexus between the two intertwined areas. It conducts research around five broad clusters, i.e, economic growth, politics and governance, urbanisation, gender issues, and regional studies. The research on gender is undertaken at the Centre for Gender and Social Transformation embedded within BIGD. On the academic side, BIGD offers four Master’s degree programmes, the MAGD, MDS, MDMP and MPSM, and offers several first rate certificate courses aimed at building capacity of the public and private sector and the NGOs. BIGD’s research does not limit knowledge creation to being an end in itself but rather to advance the pursuit of a freer and just society. Hence, it also plays an advocacy role to give voice to contemporary governance, political and economic issues. These are best reflected in its two annual flagship publications: The State of Governance and the State of Cities. BIGD provides scholars, policy specialists, researchers, academics and practitioners to share a common platform to raise critical questions on governance and development. It aspires not only to among the most vibrant institutions of knowledge creation and management within Bangladesh but also in the wider region around it—South Asia and Southeast Asia. BIGD’s staff are its most precious resource. They are drawn from the entire spectrum of social science disciplines with excellent credentials. It hosts scholars and academics from around the world and has collaborative programmes with top universities/research institutions of the world, as indicated in another section of this website. It also hosts special programmes with Ottawa and Colgate Universities which contribute course credits towards the degrees of the participating students.

Centre For Governance Studies
Global experiences of past decades have demonstrated that governance is an important factor in security, democratization and development. Governance broadly means the legal, systemic and institutional arrangements for efficient and effective management of a country’s resources in a manner that is responsive to people’s needs. Quality of governance is a crucial variable in promoting socio-economic and political development, and sound management and leadership are its key elements. Development is no longer a matter of providing resources to satisfy the basic needs, instead it is more about creating an enabling environment within which the people can exercise their fundamental rights as citizens and feel secure. This rights and security based approach to development places governance at the center of attention. The improvements in institutional and societal frameworks of governance that includes political and legal, judicial and administrative affairs are vital to the prosperity of a nation. Despite the crucial importance of governance issues, there remains substantial gap in understanding how and in what respects governance can make a difference for development. A need for sound understanding of the conceptual framework of governance, determining the indicators of good governance, ascertaining managerial and leadership considerations, assessing security matrix, and exploring ways and means for achieving good and effective governance is indisputable. There are compelling reasons to undertake programs in governance and security studies with particular aim of resolving the serious problems faced by Bangladesh. This is consistent with the current needs and imperatives of national and global politics, economy and security.

Bangladesh Brand Forum
Bangladeshi companies are yet to fully realize the benefits of wielding brand power. In contrast, a brand mindset always focuses on offering more value and not on price only; it is all about standing for something unique in the minds of the consumer. In this light, Bangladesh Brand Forum (BBF) envisions: “Transforming Bangladesh through applying Branding Ethos among local corporate”. When these local corporations are driven by branding ethos 3 major shifts take place: 1. Long Term Focus: A long-term focus adds new dimensions (e.g. social responsibility, environmental concern) to the way business is driven 2. Value Creation: Through constant focus on value creation, corporations begin to appreciate creativity, innovation & other intangibles 3. Focus on Delivery: Corporations begin to realize that delivering and often exceeding the promise is more important than the promise itself With the WTO regime and the reshaping of the global economic order to address the ever dynamic ultra-competitive world, only a truly robust economy can transform a developing nation like Bangladesh, which to a large extent is driven by local corporate. It is evident that this transformation that Bangladesh requires cannot take place through mere government intervention or the sole effort of the private sector. Rather it requires multi-dimensional initiatives by all parties, facilitated by government support. In addition, the effort must entail multifaceted activities that are essential to foster both a smooth transition towards sustainable growth under stiff competition and to enhance the image of country as well. Some key areas are: Focus on knowledge, creativity and innovation Appreciation of quality of standards, employee enrichment, and corporate professionalism Appreciation of intangibles resulting in societal empowerment and strengthening of national identity Integrating economic, social, technological, and political vision to focus on sustainability and growth

Centre For Policy Dialogue Cpd
The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), established in 1993 by Professor Rehman Sobhan with support from leading civil society institutions in Bangladesh, is mandated by its Deed of Trust to service the growing demand that originates from the emerging civil society of Bangladesh for a more participatory and accountable development process. CPD seeks to address this felt need by way of organising multistakeholder consultations, by conducting research on issues of critical national and regional interests, through dissemination of knowledge and information on key developmental issues, and by influencing the policy making process in the country. In the process, CPD strives to bridge the gap between empirical research and policy advocacy through a sustained effort in public policy analysis. CPD endeavours to create a national environment conducive to open public discussion on important policy issues with a view to ensuring domestic ownership over the policy agenda and also building a broad-based support for such policies. Over the past twenty years, CPD has emerged as Bangladesh’s premier think-tank and has established its credibility as one of the very few places in Bangladesh where the government and opposition political parties agree to sit around the dialogue table and conduct an informed discussion with the civil society.
