Tedxtinhau Women
We just wrapped up our 9th event where we presented "Reframe". Our theme was about shifting perspective—challenging the way we see the world and the opportunities that lie ahead. This year we will bring another diverse line-up of speakers to the stage who can inspire the audience to think in new ways, and to challenge and educate us through their talk. From the first year, we have made it our responsibility to make sure that our program reflects diversity in the line-up, both in terms of ideas as well as representation of Hong Kong communities. A note about our name: TEDx events are community-driven and are named after the local area in which the community it will serve is situated, but does not mean the events will be in that neighbourhood. TEDxTinHauWomen comes from Tin Hau meaning Sea Goddesses. Find out more on Facebook or Instagram

Symphilosopher
As an initiative, Symphilosopher started January 1, 2020 by Juliet Jiayuan Chen, also known as Ella-Jenna Oosterglorenwoud. By the end of that year, she was joined by Johan F. Hoorn, also known as With the cognitive turn, critical rationalism, logic verification, and empirical validation, the poetry in our thinking has become suspect, particularly in the kind of science that takes place on an industrial scale with research output, KPIs, impact factors, and other performance indicators as the epitome of managerial control, displacing the lessons learned by our greatest minds, that imagination precedes all, logics and mathematics included. Do we now state that we don’t want specialists who build bridges or study micro-organisms? Of course not. We ourselves have engaged in robotics, the formalisation of theory, empirical testing, statistical analysis. We can write quantum circuits and 3D-model Metahumans in Unreal Engine. But we did not come from there nor did we stay there. We moved out of and back into poetry. As symphilosophers, we do not want to cooperate merely intellectually but also aesthetically, meaning that a project you want to do with us is scientific as well as artistic, thinking further than what the data allow us to conclude, using those findings for the fiction that leads the way to new scientific endeavours. Because imagination is what precedes all. We want a polyphony of voices, logics as well as psycho-logics, mathematics as well as mathemadness, superposed electrons at the basis of telepathy. But then that crazy underdeveloped theory will be ruthlessly formalised and empirically broken down to the bone, after which the crumbs and pieces are creatively combined into a new line of thinking, inspiring new paintings, calligraphies, fiction stories, sketching the contours of new lines of scientific inquiry and symphilosophy. Hong Kong Union For Young Leaders Hkuyl
To inspire tomorrow's leaders today - since 1992. The Hong Kong Union for Young Leaders (HKUYL) is a non-profit making, student-based organization, registered under the Societies Ordinance (REF.CP/LIC/SO/19/10188). Since its establishment in October 1992, HKUYL has always worked diligently at helping young people to discover the leadership strengths within them, and to find their own definition of leadership. The Union aims at seeking out, recognizing and nurturing the leadership abilities of secondary school students. This is achieved through various activities including seminars, social service projects and training camps, and through providing them exposure to recognized leaders in today’s society. Besides sharpening students’ leadership skills, the Union also aims at making them aware of local problems, and strives to promote a sense of global citizenship as well as commitment and dedication to the world community. The major highlight of the Union is the annual Youth Leadership Seminar (YLS), in which two students who have exhibited leadership potential in each member school are chosen to participate. Through numerous lectures, discussions and workshops, participants learn about the different aspects of leadership, such as effective communication, motivating people and setting goals. The climax of the seminar is a four-day-three-night camp that involves an open congress, simulations and a series of group games. By bringing together elite students from the secondary schools of Hong Kong, the Youth Leadership Seminar helps to build an extensive network of potential leaders, and amongst them fosters friendships that last for a lifetime. Moreover, ten outstanding students will be nominated to participate in the Hugh O'Brian Youth World Leadership Congress (HOBY WLC), which will be held in the United States of America. Excellent young leaders from all over the world will gather for meaningful cultural exchange as well as build international friendship.
