Quinta Da Lagoalva

A Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima estende-se pela margem sul do Tejo, a cerca de 2 km da Vila de Alpiarça e a 11 Km de Santarém. Em 1834, a Quinta da Lagoalva é comprada por Henrique Teixeira de Sampayo, 1º conde da Póvoa. Em 1841-42 todos os bens passam para D. Maria Luisa Noronha de Sampaio, que casa em 1846 com D. Domingos António Maria Pedro de Souza e Holstein, 2º Duque de Palmela, revertendo a partir dessa época os bens para a Casa Palmela. Sucessivamente sempre em poder dos seus descendentes, as terras são hoje pertença da Sociedade Agrícola Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima SA.

Azamor Wines

AZAMOR Wines is a boutique, family-owned and run winery in the Southeast of Portugal, i.e. the Alentejo. Its wines are fruity, balanced, persistent, elegant and with soft tannins. The winemaker, a British woman who married a Portuguese and grew up drinking French wine, fell in love with Portuguese wines, and decided to experiment with Portuguese and French varieties. The 350 meter above-sea-level, 25 acre vineyard has been planted on schist soils, and is one of the most densely planted vineyard in the region. We follow sustainable principles, and minimum intervention of treatments and products, both in the vineyard and in the winery. We practice precision viticulture applying the minimum number of treatments to the vineyard, usually 2-3 times during the growing season, as opposed to an average of 8-10 times which is typical in this region. We pick by hand, being the harvesting decision taken based on the grape flavour and analysis. The production is around bottles (though the exclusive ICON D’AZAMOR has a limited production of bottles). We use our own indigenous ferment to reflect the authentic characteristics of each variety and its terroir. Grapes are pressed in a traditional basket press, to minimize tannin extraction, before being transferred and stored in stainless steel tanks. Some are selected for oak barrels. Whilst ageing, we keep the wines slightly “reduced” to limit the quantity of sulfur in the wine. All the production process takes place on the estate and grapes are entirely our own. 85% of our production is being exported to various countries in Europe.

Since 1980s Casa de Cello is managed by João Pedro Araujo who after studying viticulture in Bordeaux, France took over development of the family wine business.
