About Abdullah Algarni

Abdullah Algarni is an Advisor to the Minister, at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD). He has a long track record of achievements in a various leadership positions, training, consultation and research. Prior to his current position, he held a number of positions at Institute of Public Administration, including the Director General of Research and Studies Center, the Director of Innovation and Business Development, the Director of Applied Studies, the Director of IT Consulting, and the Director of IT Training Division. Algarni also held the position of chairman of some committees at IPA such as the Chairman of Research Committee, the Chairman of Applied Studies Committee, and a member of several other committees. He worked also as a consultant for Islamic Development Bank, Arab Open University, and as a researcher for Queensland University of Technology. He has also participated in some initiatives of the National Transformation Program in the Saudi's Vision 2030, was a member of a policy brief for T20 Group, which emanating from the Group of Twenty (G20) in 2020, and provided several consultations for public and private organizations. He obtained his PhD degree in Information Systems in 2016, from Queensland University of Technology (Australia), his Master degree in Computer Science in 2009, from Western Michigan University (United States), and his Bachelor degree in Computer Science in 2005, from King Abdulaziz University (Saudi Arabia). He has been awarded several prizes from different organizations such as Queensland University of Technology, Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission, Institute of Public Administration, and some international conferences. For example, he received the HDR High Achiever Award from Queensland University of Technology in 2015. In 2016, he was awarded with a Queensland University of Technology Outstanding Thesis Award for his PhD thesis. He won also the Faculty Excellence Award for scientific publication in 2020 as well as 2018 from Institute of Public Administration. Algarni is a member of a number of international societies such as (USA) since 2009, SCIEI (USA) since 2013, AIS (USA) since 2014, ACM (USA) since 2015, and HEMAYAH (which is an Information Security Association located in Saudi Arabia) since 2016. He has published more than 30 refereed research articles in top information systems journals and conferences such as EJIS, ACCESS, ICIS, PACIS, HICSS and others. His current research interests are mainly in the area of information security and information systems.
