About Adrian Wan

Adrian H.Y. Wan obtained his PhD. at the University of Hong Kong. Before that, he graduated from the Master of Social Work from the University of Hong Kong. He received postgraduate training in psychology at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Adrian works at the Centre on Behavioral Health (CBH) as an post-doctoral fellow, and and psychological counselor. Adrian’s major research area covers the adjustment to stress, post-traumatic growth, and emotion regulations among people struggling with chronic medical conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and cancer survivors. His research works have been presented in international conferences both local and overseas, as well as published in international publications. He was awarded the Young Investigator Award by the scientific committee of the Hong Kong International Cancer Congress in 2011. Adrian's clinical practice integrates principles and techniques from different counseling orientations. He has received training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Body-Mind-Spirit (BMS) approach. At present, Adrian is Hong Kong's first Certified Teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). To promote holistic health practice, mindfulness and self-compassion in Hong Kong, Adrian offers tailor-made seminars, workshops, and training programs for allied health professionals, teachers and students, non-governmental organizations, people with chronic illness, and the general public. Apart from his work at the University of Hong Kong, he is the Founder and Director of the Lighthouse: Centre for Mindfulness and Compassionate Living - an online platform to promote wellness through mindfulness practice and cultivation of compassion.
