About Alan Bornbusch

Senior program leader and technical adviser with over 20 years experience in international development, across health, science and technology, and environmental conservation. The past 16 years dedicated to strengthening supply chain systems to increase access to essential health commodities for primary health care in the public and private sectors. Alan is currently Division Chief for the Commodity Security and Logistics (CSL) Division in USAID’s Office of Population and Reproductive Health. He leads a 20-person team dedicated to being a world leader towards ensuring the long-term availability for clients of a wide range of high-quality contraceptives and family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH) commodities through public and private channels. Alan provides technical and administrative leadership and guidance for a portfolio of over $50 million annually to procure FP/RH commodities and provide supply chain technical assistance worldwide. Alan is also a member of the senior management team for the Office of Population and Reproductive Health, the senior leadership team for USAID’s Global Health Supply Chain Program, and currently serves on the steering committee for the Global Family Planning Visibility and Analytics Network, Advisory Group for the International Association of Public Health Logisticians, and Board for People that Deliver. Since 2002, Alan has provided technical support for USAID programs in Rwanda, Jordan, Ukraine, Bangladesh, The Gambia, and West Africa region. He currently supports the Agency’s supply chain program in Nigeria, one of its largest. Alan previously facilitated U.S-Africa scientific cooperation at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, strengthened monitoring and evaluation for the Kenya Wildlife Service, managed the Demographic and Health Surveys Project at USAID, and was a professor of biological sciences at Smith and Hampshire Colleges.
